I agree with what everyone is saying about Springsteen. It applies to me also.

AC/DC - just never caught my ear

Phish/Grateful Dead - never dug the music, or the whole scene in general

The Beatles - You would've thought by now that people would be done cramming the Beatles down everybody's throat, but it's only seemed to increase in my lifetime

Eric Clapton's Blues - I like the more "songish" stuff he's written, like Cocaine and Layla and White Room, but I think his blues is about as mediocre as it gets from someone at his level of fame

Kiss, Journey, Scorpions, AC/DC, etc. I think it's funny when someone says how great 70s music was and that there aren't any newer bands that are as good as AC/DC and all the other power chord rock bands. I hear the same kind of stuff from the local bands, the only difference is the guitars are usually a lot more distorted.

These two bands should never be mentioned together. The "scene" is always inconsequential.

Easy to remember : It's always OK to like* the Grateful Dead , but never OK to like any band influenced by the Grateful Dead.

    * or not like them but Leftover Salmon and moe and Widespread Panic and so many others ? It's really not OK (or necessary) to even think about them.

I guess my words reveal my ignorance. Truthfully, I've heard Phish and the Grateful Dead, but not enough to consider myself familiar with them. Phish was pretty big when I was growing up/in high school (I'm 30) and it seems like people who liked Phish inevitabley liked the Grateful Dead. Incidentally, a lot of these people were wannabe hippies. I guess that's what I meant by "scene" and also why I paint with a broad brush.

Radiohead. I've tried but I can't listen to them. Oddly I like when people cover their songs but not the original versions.

Also, Queen. Good band with a unique sound, I just never really got into it.

JJ Cale wrote Cocaine. Jack Bruce & Pete Brown wrote White Room. Clapton is co-credited with Layla with Jim Gordon. One out of three ain't bad i guess

    Grateful Dead. Can't stand them.
Santana. One track is enough, after that, make it stop!
