Now truing all the rims on plate glass & 100 grit paper. Slow process, but it really gives a chance to get a feel for each one.

I cut a few necks, one sycamore, one walnut, one rock maple. Need another, now there's a fourth body under way. Haven't decided what wood to use for that one yet, although I'm leaning toward an old poplar piece that's been floating around here for many years..
I had two of them, used one several years back. Some nice, dark dye really brought it around visually, and it has remained stable. Used to be part of a bookcase.

I hand drill for the tuners, hand carve each neck.

Made one fretboard so far, species unknown. Sure is tight grained, hard, and pretty. That will go with the sycamore neck. The piece came to me as a gift from a friend, whose father was a woodworker, and his dad had recently passed away.

Whoa, Rich is back at it!
    Love it!
I saw an upright piano a block and 1/2 from me. I thought about your re-construction of the Piano you had. It's rained a few times since, and the piano is still there but I doubt there's anything good about it now. That thread was one of the ones that inspired a whole entire shift in the way I looked and thought about guitars and instruments. Thanks again!

I did a little resawing this morning, Eastern red cedar
Glued and joined one of the sets, then cut a top. Should be ok, if I choose to use it on one of these instruments.
Also ordered up some other top woods, we'll see what feels best when that stuff arrives. USER_SCOPED_TEMP_DATA_MSGR_PHOTO_FOR_UPLOAD_1560177020692.jpeg USER_SCOPED_TEMP_DATA_MSGR_PHOTO_FOR_UPLOAD_1560183445664.jpeg USER_SCOPED_TEMP_DATA_MSGR_PHOTO_FOR_UPLOAD_1560188557132.jpeg

I think Brian Jones would have liked playing one of your acoustics.

Good to see you back havin' fun Rich! In China ATM and looked at some teak wood at a craft market shop a few days ago. Very beautiful timber very expensive and heavy as a Tiger Tank, and doubt I'd get it into Aussie anyway. The shop I saw it was making full slab natural edge/ shape etc. table tops. One was approx. 25' long and worth more in Aus.$ than my car plus a king's ransom in freight if I could get it in, but would love some.

Watching this thread with interest mate!

I'm liking the flip side of the redwood back more and more. A little "rustic", but it has a certain appeal to me for whatever reason. I think it will be cool on the thinline body.

The redwood on these builds is reclaimed from fence posts and slats that were out in the Chicago weather since 1967.

Capped the nose, refined the redwood some, fitting the back to the rims. USER_SCOPED_TEMP_DATA_MSGR_PHOTO_FOR_UPLOAD_1560351015641.jpeg USER_SCOPED_TEMP_DATA_MSGR_PHOTO_FOR_UPLOAD_1560355267358.jpeg USER_SCOPED_TEMP_DATA_MSGR_PHOTO_FOR_UPLOAD_1560355279436.jpeg

This thing is massive, but very lightweight and strong.
    Now watching glue dry. Joy.

Changing course on a few of these, not digging the reclaimed redwood on the back- too rustic a look. So hey.. making new top and back plates. 20190614_144404.jpg USER_SCOPED_TEMP_DATA_MSGR_PHOTO_FOR_UPLOAD_1560567922170.jpeg
