anyone ever try to do a (for lack of a better term) surf burst type of finish. I could imagine some really cool ways to burst colors like surf green, Seafoam green, Ocean Turquoise, Daphne Blue, ice Blue, etc.
If done well, going from light blue to dark green or light green to dark could both look really interesting. The only example of something like this I can find is here:

I guess I am wondering why you don't see something like this?

I've thought about doing something similar. The way I pictured it is a BSB Burst. So the core color being the translucent amber, then around the edge the solid version of that color.
Surf green would be an interesting one to do, I think you'd need to mix some custom colors but it would be super cool!

Like this? Only surf green? I gotta say, I really don't like this in blue. blue_burst.jpg

That's what I was thinking. It might be pretty difficult to do well. It might be best to stick to one color as well. Maybe burst from surf green in the middle to a Sherwood green on the edges.

The Mako Shark concept cars had a very "surfy" or "fishy" paint job.

Yup, 'surf' would be the key word here
Personally i like it but it may be an acquired taste for the masses.

I reckon this looks cool in an ocean/surfy kind of way.

So this isn't a burst, as I define a burst. This looks more iridescent, like a blue-over-pearl layered spray? Its very cool, and I've only seen that on automobiles, such as the green-over-orange or blue-over-yellow. Kinda surprised I've not seen more examples of iridescent layered spray on guitars.

Gotta say, I'm not liking any of the finishes posted so far. Here's what Eastwood calls their Surfcaster:

No idea. I've just admired them from afar myself, kind of like the Reverends. They sure look nice.

Yes, something like this but in a Fender style not PRS meaning no quilted top, no translucent or irradescent finish. Maybe a telecaster or strat with Seafoam Gree

Too blue -- could be my monitor -- but more to the green side of the spectrum and I'd be all over that kind of finish.
