I'm not referring to guitar solos on recordings that are so obscure that very few people have heard them; I'm referring to those songs that were heard by millions of people, but for some reason we have forgotten how awesome the guitar solos were. Like this:

Never been a Journey fan, but always liked this one; forgot how good the guitar work was on this. Steve Perry sure has a voice.

Nothing fancy about this, but that's the greatness of James Burton.

I don’t know how obscure it’s considered now that it was featured in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” awesome mixtape volume 1, but the guitar solo on “Fooled Around and Fell in Love” is fantastic.

My favorite is always Jimmy Lyon's perfect slice of blues/rock in "Two Tickets"...

Always liked this 'twisted' solo on Donna Summer's Hot Love. Any ideas what scale he's using?

With Richard Lloyd on lead...his angular playing on a sweet pop song is the perfect touch. "Some songs he would just throw at me, and depending upon the emotion in the song itself, that would lend itself to a certain kind of playing, and 'Sick Of Myself' had that kind of angst in it, so I tried to portray that."

I always thought those two were quite wicked.

Gotta love a hit single with a one and a half minute guitar solo! One of my favourites.

Also been forever curious - how does that descending chromatic line work out?

I've said it before, I'll say it again; these two solos have stuck with me since I first heard them:

The first solo, courtesy of madman Joe Walsh, in "Dirty Laundry" by Don Henley.

Nils Lofgren's howling guitar torture in Springsteen's "Tunnel of Love".

Man I'd forgotten just how much Rush wanted to be the Police for awhile

Yeah, that was around the time they were really into The Police and made a conscience effort to catch the same vibe.

Jimmy Page said the solo in this was his favorite guitar solo, in an interview.
Steely Dan is one of my top 5 favorite bands (if you can call them that) of all time.

Keith Scott always plays what the song needs... to the point the solo's often get overlooked because they are such a part of the tune.

Here's one from 1982... solo starts at 2:20
