    Here's a little oddball I'm building for the $210 builder's challenge.
It'll have a matching sonic blue J5 shaped headstock next week.
One pickup so I guess it's still an Esquire...

Yep, theres something highly functional about a black esquire. When I got this black MIM, the first thing that I thought of do do with it was "esquire" it.

After fantasizing about one for a good bit now and going through some trouble I have my new American Standard Esquire. I bought this new just barely a year ago. First I had a Gibson Burstbucker 1 in the neck. I liked it but I loved my Strat that I had redone more at the time. The Strat has a DiMarzio 36th PAF humbucker in the neck, a regular American Standard single coil in the middle, and a DiMarzio Super Distorion in the bridge with a 5 way switch. I love the Strat. Oh yea, I got it to where the bridge pickup is controlled by the rear tone. Hoorah.

Well, having two guitars that had PAF pickups that sounded similar didn't help. Also, because a shoddy shop did the work, I had a nagging feeling that they weren't up to a hundred percent. Also, I missed the cleans I used to have. So, long story short, I found a good shop, got the Tele converted to an Esquire with a Seymour Duncan Broadcaster pickup, and used the simple wiring diagram on TDPRI. I love this thing. With this and the Strat I am set with electrics. Anything else is a want not a need.

    "Nice Tele!"

    "That Telecaster sounded GREAT!"

    "They never made those!"

"So you get, like, one half of the Tele sounds?"

"You must have another pickup hidden under there!"

...or, just the blank look of "something is wrong but I can't figure out what."

What other lines do you hear after slinging your Esquire? In 6 years, I have only had maybe 8 guys know what it was off the bat, a few less who really understood it, and maybe twice I have seen another player use one at a gig.
I walked right up to a guy playing one between songs and said "ESQUIRE...You GET it!" He smiled an knew in an instant that I must have one. Instant Guitar Brother!
