Nice, I had a '90 Gibson Firebird V that looked just like it. How do you like those p'ups? Marc is a close friend of a close friend of mine.

The original V's were cool the one I had was a SB 64 or 65 in the late 70's, not enough gain for a Gibson and not bright enough like a tele or a strat....sort of in the bland dullsville tone range IMHO. It very neck heavy as well...
I wish they would reissue the firebird 1 with the single bridge p/u and stop bridge/tailpiece, I've been looking for one of those forever, the one that's pictured on the Live Cream album... simple no nonsense and super cool in it's overt understatement...
    What can I say?

I love the pickups! Tom Short winds some amazing stuff. All of his pickups have this syrupy vintage tone and are low wind, per say. I'm a fan of lower output pickups and either turning the amp up, using an OD to achieve the drive, or both. I like the tone I get better than having a hotter pickup pushing the front end of the amp; where I'm going to use a pedal anyway. These come in either A2 or A4 and vintage or vintage hot. I believe the mini vintage winds come in at 6.1K neck and 6.3K bridge, and the hots at 6.3K neck and 7.1K bridge.

Thanks for the reply-those p'ups sound great. The main reason (besides being broke) for getting rid of my '90 FB was the pickups. Gibson had some stupid, high power Heavy Metal sounding p'ups in it-and I just didn't feel like spending more $$ on an already expensive guitar. I love the p'ups on the Epi FB VII, they sound almost exactly like the ones on my buddies '64 FB.
+100 on Gibson reissuing the Firebird I.

I also changed the 300K volume pots, that Gibson puts in these, with CTS 500K's. The 300K's don't allow enough highs through and "choke" the sound of a humbucking pickup.

Do the Epi's have 300K pots? I know the wiring in the control cavity is a cluster.

Okay, 2001 Firebird V, got the most notorious Firebird wailer ever to sign the pickguard down in Memphis back in 2006.
