Thanks. They are basically a neck bolted to another long piece that goes through the ends of a tin or box cause the tin or cigar boxes can be flimsy. The box or tin gives some influence on the overall tone of the instrument.

Now it is clear. I will follow the progress of the build of this bass.

Got to go shopping this weekend for the aluminum flat stock for the fretboard, brass bolt for the nut, steel bolt for the bridge and the eye bolts for the tuners. May use a metal framing bracket at the tuner end of the through piece to add some strength and keep that end from bowing under string pressure.

Didn't go shopping, ran out of money. Have to wait til next month to finish.
I did get the back of the neck shaped, just need to go over it with sandpaper.

At first I thought that was a skunk stripe. :) I like it. You going to leave the stripe or sand it natural?

Now there's some serious hardware. Looking forward to seeing them in action.

Their 5/16ths". I thought they would handle bass strings okay. The slot in the end piece is just big enough for 3 on one side and 2 on the other.

A member here gave me 3 humbucker pickups. 2 of the buckers were actually single coil pups with 2 magnets stuffed in a double coil housing. One was apart already and I thought about taking the other one apart and making a real double coil pickup out of the 2. The other one was encased in epoxy and would be destroyed trying to get it apart. So I put the other pup together, mounted them stacked in the middle position and wired them together in series like one big humbucker. Looks kinda ugly, but it doesn't matter because they'll be under the top lid and unseen.

The 2 buckers were low output, 5.7k and 5.3k. So now I'm getting 11k out of them.
