So the other day I briefly held a Deusenberg and noticed that it had very nice knurled knobs about half the height of Telecaster knobs. My first thought was that this could be a solution to easier access to the Tele selector switch. I believe that the Deusenberg knobs would sit below the switch making it easier to grab. Might necessitate new pots, but still. . . Whaddya think?

I like the idea. In fact, I use smaller knobs on my control plate for just that reason (I also just tend to prefer smaller knobs). The switch location always seemed crowded to me.

if i'm using plastic knobs, i often cut part of the bottom off for strats and teles. helps to keep my picking hand from hitting them

Those knobs look neat. May need to Dremel the shaft a little, but still, pots are cheap. I use a Strat switch tip, which overcomes switching anxiety for me.

Same here with the switch tip. This one's a 5-way switch so it seemed appropriate... [IMG]

    Cool!
G&L ASAT knobs are also smaller/lower profile.

I'd just do a custom control plate, with the hole for the volume pot skootched down the plate. I also move the tone pot hole up about half that amount.

Here’s a pair on my Cabronita, perhaps G&L have changed knob sources.
They are off an ASAT Bluesboy I had briefly.
I’d say they are 40% smaller.

Yeah. Look at how little distance from the set screw to the top of the knob. That is different.

Yeah, buddy. I know this is off topic, but the Mike Campbell sig Dusenberg is gorgeous.

And from his Dusenberg artist page, it appears he's in another band called the Dirty Knobs. Seems apropos the thread...

Take care that the knob goes down far enuf to cover the nut. Many will not, and will look ugly. It is quite a job to find good fitting Tele knobs that are low profile.

All my Teles get the Allparts cupcake knobs, which are about 4mm lower, slightly wider and fit perfect.
They don't completely solve the switch issue but I use different control plates for that. I have found a supply of plates that have an extra 5mm space and with the low profile knobs it works out pretty good.

I had the opposite problem. Recently bought an Ibanez S670. When the knobs are pushed down as far as they go they brush against the finish, which is not cool.

It was annoying me, so I packed them out with a couple of washers. Problem solved.

I also didn't like the bridge pickup but that's another story...
