It's sad to see. I live in eastern Canada, just under an hour from Maine. We have been going through a really cold streak the last week or so. Temperatures have been around -20 C with wind chills around -34 C. In the past week I have seen 2 adds on the Canadian buy and sell site (kijiji) where people are trying to sell stuff dirt cheap in order to get heat. A few days ago someone was selling a $20 gift card from Long & McQuade (Canadian guitar chain) in order to buy wood pellets for their stove. They said they had no wood pellets and there house was freezing. Just make an offer and come pick it up. Now today someone is selling a Traynor YCV50B for $180. He said they have no heat and $180 will get him a cord of wood for the wood stove. I had that exact amp a few years ago and traded it in toward a new amp head. I got $350 for it. It's sad to see people so desperate for heat that they are almost giving stuff away. Anyway, I've just been looking at these things and it's been on my mind.

Happy New Year everyone, and stay warm.

I had a friend who did that a few years ago. I hear you. It was around -31 C (-25F) here in northern Vermont this morning when I was walking the dog. Layers!!

    Happy New Year!

I’ve done it for food for the family. Sucks, big time. I refused to take charity as others have it worse than I, way worse. I was thankful I had stuff to sell.
Sad for those people though, there is a LOT of Winter left.

I sold some studio EQs to buy my family Christmas presents one year. No Uhauls following a hearse as they say. Everything is a gift, use it as needed.

That's sort of tragic. I guess the economy must be pretty bad, much like Maine.

If I have to explain it, you're probably not going to get it.

Seriously? It means you can't take it with you. Do what you've gotta do to live.

    Seriously.
I've never known a death that didn't involve a u haul or a trash truck shortly.

Been fortunate that heat, & food have never been involved, but I have sold gear & other possessions to make rent, and keep my car (so as to get to work) on the road more than a few times. I would not be shy about asking for help w/heat, lack of heat is a slippery slope than can lead to catastrophic structural failures and or health issues that could put you in a hole so deep that there is no recovery. There would always be the opportunity to make a donation to the assisting agency or fund, when the gear sells or your situation is improved in some other way.

And these are the people who have something to sell. Prayers for those who don't. Wish I was near there.

This thread makes so grateful I've never been in that situation. It was 10 degrees Fahrenheit on my deck just outside of Atlanta this morning.

Also, when I read the title of the thread, I thought the OP was selling gear to buy a gun.

Sorry, I know it's a serious topic, but I thought a little levity might not hurt...
