Central Texas out in the boonies and not a camera in sight. I've lived out here ten years, the Mexican bald Eagles were abundant when we moved out here, but, I haven't seen any in a few years until yesterday. The Whooping Cranes are migratory and I see them occasionally.

There’s a bunch of both around the Blanco river in Wimberley and Blanco.
    Texas wildlife heaven!

I'm about 120 miles north of Austin. Maybe the milder weather is the factor for them being this far north?

    Perhaps.
I’ve seen a lot of caracaras lately, not many whooping cranes, but lots of other cranes.

We have quite a few in our area, also.

Sandhill cranes come down here by the tens of thousands every year.

Only saw one of those Caracaras so far, in South Florida just off FL 60. Not easily mistaken with anything else.

I need to make a trip to far South Texas. So many species down there, you won't see further North - like those green Kingfishers.

I thought I saw a lot in Louisiana and Mississippi, until we got that apartment in Central FL in late 2005. Wow, and also some whooping cranes at Woodward nearby.

I guess now is the beginning of birdwatching season down your way.
