I love the angelic voice of the late Sandy Denny. Although I liked her in several settings, I liked her best in Fairport convention.

Note the great guitar playing by Richard Thompson.

I saw Fairport with Sandy Denny in the early 70s at a small club in Cleveland. They were wonderful.

Would love to have seen Fairport Convention.

Does anyone see the stylistic kinship between Sandy Denny and Nick Drake?

Didn’t Joe Boyd produce both Fairport and Nick Drake? And yeah there’s a connection there as Richard Thompson played on one of Drakes discs.

I mean, they’re different but I’m not sure Nick would’ve gotten to make records without Fairport? Of ourse pure speculation and let’s be thankful he did. Hauntingly beautiful still.

    Cheers,
    Geoff

I was just listening to the Sandy era Fairport the other day. I've just gotten my CD's out of storage. The blend of her voice, Richard's guitar and Swarb's violin is magical.

I heard that one on the radio today. I'd forgotten how much that song rocked.

Radio Paradise - named for Paradise, California, where they started. The principals of the station moved away well before the fire, so they and their operation are out of harm's way.

Great station. Surprising playlist. No commercials. Minimal gab. It's pretty much all the radio we've listened to here for five years.
