    Hi Guys!!!

On my last Thread, the American Special beat out the Nashville Telecaster by a wide margin.

    So...

Let's try the Road Worn 50's against the American Special, and like before, please share your thoughts as to why you chose one over the other :)

I have a Special and it is a wonderful guitar. I really like the Texas Special pups in it.
I don't have a 50s road worn but I have a partscaster I built that is similar except it is an Esquire and I really like it too. But I would pick the AS first then get the RW later.

My Road Worn 50’s is the best sounding and feeling guitar I have by far.

I have both and I voted for the Road Worn 50s but my American Special is my number 1 guitar right now.

They are both great guitars and I got the Road Worn for its vintage vibe and the 7.5” fretboard radius.

The American Special has the best feeling neck to me and I love the jumbo frets. It weighs 8lbs which is fine but the Road Worn 50s is 7.25 lbs and I like that lighter weight much better.

I put all low post locking tuners on my American Special and Glendale Brass Compensated Saddles on both guitars.

I love them both and don’t feel the need for any additional Teles.

I like the American Special. I know it is discontinued, but they are still around.
Right now there is no new Fender Telecaster I would BUY over an American Special.
Sure there are guitars that Fender makes that are better, but if I was putting down the cash the American special is the one I would buy.

I like the sound, the neck and the frets.

I have the two-color sunburst and it has an alder body. However, I think your amp and the pickups have a greater impact on the sound than the body wood. The Tex Mex pickups on my 50s Road Worn are clear and deep and what I think a vintage tone should sound like. It is such a fun guitar and a great value. I bought mine used and its a 2017 model.

I will second, third, etc. the sentiments on the Special's pickups. I love them. They sound really awesome with a spark booster pedal. I have the vintage blonde special and swapped out the black pick guard with a parchment one. Looks great.

I have an American Special and I love the way it sounds, especially the neck pickup. I wish the neck were bigger. Some of the roadworns have great necks and some are just so so. I don't really care for the Roadworn pickups and I hate the CNC hole that they put in the body.

Both are nice but I voted Roadworn.I prefer the vintage aesthetic, super thin nitro lacquer on the body and they are usually lightweight.

I picked Road Worn as it's closest to my requirements: neck profile, pickups, vintage-style bridge.

For someone looking to buy one of these, it comes down to how you get along with the neck. You're really buying a neck with a lot of easily-replacable parts attached to it.

play 'em both. it won't take long to figure out which neck feels right in your hands. they're pretty different guitars.
