A few hours ago we got the phone call from the nursing home. She went downhill last night and I was hoping she'd make it till the end of the week so I could zoom down and visit her (it's an 8 hour drive and we've had plenty of false alarms before) Mum would have been 97 in June, a great innings and she had most of her marbles right till the end. She would take me every Saturday morning for my guitar lessons when I was 10, and she loved hearing me play Neil Diamond tunes for her from the songbook she got me

Here's the last pic of her and I together (I took her a decent coffee as the nursing home stuff is disgraceful)

    Sorry to hear.

Lost mine back in 1994. Think about and talk to her everyday.

I bet you'll think about her every time you hear a Neil Diamond song.

Prayers to ya Richie - mine is on the way out, too.
Years of falls and the devastating effects of dementia have changed the old gal I'm visiting.
The care facilities are probably doing their best, but it's an awful visit each time, knowing that SHE wouldn't want this if she still had her mind in full function.
    So sorry for your loss.
    Peace - Deeve

    Sorry to hear this, richiek65.
97 is indeed a good run, but it doesn't matter what age we lose the one who brought us into the world, it still hurts.

I wish you and your family peace.

I lost my mom 26 years ago, and still think about her everyday.
    Ovarian cancer.

RIP - I lost mine over 30 years ago she would have been 100 next year. Just imagine how much she saw change in the world. I don't think my mom would have ever gotten a cell phone.

    Lung cancer took her...

You only lose your Mum once and it hurts like hell!

Remember her smile and the great times.

Condolences and they say times heals. It doesn’t. You’ll always miss your Mum but like does go on.
