I am reading this (incredible) book right now.

STAYING ALIVE -- a book about how the great success of "Saturday Night Fever" became an albatross around the Gibb's necks and destroyed their career for a loooooong time. The Bee Gees became the most hated band on Earth for many, many years...and just because they created five perfect songs for that film. They did brilliant work for that movie, and for that they were crucified. Great book.

The book also tells it like it was for those Gibb brothers. Barry is to be knighted? Does the Queen know what that guy was up to every day and night of his life? Man, I bet back in the day Keith Richards himself couldn't keep up with all that Barry was doing.

I've watched this Barry Gibb concert from Glastonbury 2017 several times... what amazing song writing! 70 years old at the time, just bringing it.

Skip to 22:30... thats the reason Barry was Knighted. Much deserved I say.

I just read the other day that Barry Gibb is in the Guinness Book as the 2nd most successful songwriter ever, right behind Paul McCartney. He's like Nile Rodgers - a guy most people know for his part in a disco band, without realizing he was a major force in music, behind the scenes.

I disagree. I think it was the movie Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band that stymied their career & Peter Frampton's
right along with it. At least in America. But,they were still a world wide force all around the planet.

Unlike Keef, Barry's adventures never made the papers.

Perhaps a knighthood is a bit silly, depending on one’s opinion on the Royal family in this day and age (I don’t have one, I think that is reserved for Brits), but anybody who has ever visited the hard scrabble neighborhood that Ringo grew up in has to appreciate how unlikely it is that a person from the Dingle would ever be honored like this. Ringo was raised in serious poverty (and poor health with extended stays in the hospital at several points). Huzzah for him for being celebrated thusly.

Oh, that SGT. PEPPER'S movie sure didn't move their career forward, no doubt. But, come on, it was their link to disco - they became the face of disco - that crippled them.

And they weren't a disco band! They made five songs for that FEVER film and unfairly became the target of the "Disco Sucks" movement. Burning Bee Gees records was a common pastime at many a rock radio station across America.

The SGT. PEPPER'S movie was a bomb. How many people do you think saw it? Hardly anybody made a connection between The Bee Gees and that film. On the other hand SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER was one of the biggest films ever and the album, I believe, is still a top five biggest selling record in history! Now which project do you really think sunk their career: a film nobody saw, or SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER which made The Bee Gees the face of disco and the main target for DISCO SUCKS backlash?
