So the game is to state a questionable proposition, then ignore all comments or evidence to the contrary, in service of asserting that it must be true?

when I die, I want to be sent to Valhalla on a dragon-crested longboat, resting on a burning pyre of telecaster FSR's, CS special editions and one super rare '52 blackguard - clutched in my burning fingers...

    yeeeeeehaw!

I could be as simple as this: The people who owns one loves them and don't want to give them up...

Here's my "one of a kind":

    Squier 2018.JPG

...it's my "Signature Model"... very rare and VERY valuable. In fact, it's PRICELESS!

Some day people will be saying "Eric Clapton who?"... "Blackie what?!?"...

Rare guitar are usually the rubbish everyone discarded and then get picked up by another band way down the line. Also the number of guitarists who care its rare are dwindling fast .Just play the one you like .Thats the rarist one.

Annnnd the reason for that is either it is rare as chicken teeth or it was the most awsome guitar they ever found.
I'm betting the former and am apparently completely alone on that thought.

You could be right, and if you read further down you'll see that I do agree that you may have a point here...

But what makes things unpredictable are situations like this: I've been keeping my eyes peeled for a Fender "Modern Player HSH Stratocaster" in Crimson Red (made in China) which seem to be as rare as anything else out there, but I seriously doubt people are holding on to them because they think they might dramatically increase in value someday.

So, another explanation is that the selling market is currently in a slump (a buyer's market) and niche' products like the Copperburst (higher end product) or MP HSH (lower end product) just aren't selling for what they're worth, so people are simply unwilling to sell them for a loss.

    Case in point:

I also own a very early, low production, PRS "Ten Top" Custom 24 with abalone birds, Brazilian rosewood fretboard and fairly rare Emerald Green finish over a curly maple top and I can't even get as much for it as a new mass produced model without some of the more desirable features.

Anyway, one thing for sure, the main thing the Copperburst and other limited run Fender guitars have in common is that there are just plain fewer of them out there and, for whatever reason, the people who have them aren't in any particular hurry to give 'em up...

....yet someone is willing to let go of a gold on white three pickup non reverse firebird all day long, IN this 'slumped market'?
I mean that logic doesn't hold water.

    Oh I agree it's a slumped market.

The rarest one is the one you are looking for and cannot find. It took me awhile to find the "Edge" MIJ Tele Custom that I wanted, but I'm sure they really aren't that rare. I think the market you're in matters too.

How do you know there’s only 120 of those? Where did you hear/read about that?

I have a tendency toward "slightly unusual" guitars, and I own these:

Fender Classic Player Telecaster Deluxe w/ Tremolo
    Fender Aerodyne Telecaster
    Fender Celtic Esquire
Squier Telecaster FSR with Bigsby in Candy Apple Red

They're all out of production and somewhat hard to find. When they do pop up they seem to sell for about the same as their more commonly available cohorts sell for. They're all great guitars, that's why I keep them. I don't expect them to appreciate in price.

Will any modern guitars appreciate in price?
That is the question. Will any be considered vintage, even.
Not here at TDPRI if that is any standard bearer.

I missed on of these on Craigslist a few years ago. A fine looking specimen.
