Man, that is terrible news.
It's official. He gone.
FWIW from TMZ:
1:35 PM PT -- Sources tell us at 10:30 Monday morning a chaplain was called to Tom's hospital room. We're told the family has a do not resuscitate order on Tom. The singer is not expected to live much longer ... but at this time, he's still clinging to life. A report that the LAPD confirmed the singer's death is inaccurate.
Of course, it's only a matter of time.
THE reason I started playing...first songs learned were his...
Can't stop eating oatmeal cream pies and ice cream sandwiches...
My neighbor's dog's name IS Tom Petty...
Wow, this one is tough to digest. Even though he was 66 I never thought of him as one of those old rockers. RIP Tom, condolences to all his family and friends.
This has been a horrific day.
Way too much loss in the last 24 hours.
RIP Mr P., thanks for all the great music. He was the real deal; he never lost his integrity.
OBSERVATION -- some Admin needs to consolidate the FOUR separate PETTY posts down into one.
My son and I are seriously saddened. One of the first concerts he and I attended together. He never sold out. All his stuff always sounded old school to me.
I'm absolutely numb over what's been going on in the world over the last 15 hours. Tom was one of my main influences on my guitar playing and songwriting. He along with The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, U2, & Paul Simon helped shape who I am. Can't tell you how many times his songs have saved my life.
He was still on top of his game at age 66 too as you can tell by the "similar threads" down below.
That sucks. His music brought and will continue to bring me a lot of happiness.
I was living the life of a trucker in 1989, and I can't tell you the times I watched his video at home and listened to the song "I won't back down" on the road. That kind of stuff don't mean a hill of beans to me now, but it was once kind of like a theme song for my life, or at least I thought it was at that time when I was traveling a tough stretch of road in life. I sincerely liked Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and think he did some damned fine tunes in his time. I'm gonna miss him being in the world. Cool dude no doubt about it.
Influential member of the Traveling Wilburys, had a small solo career. Loved him.
(apologies if this is in violation, not sure how it is with song content)
RIP to one of my heroes. Effin bummer.
I just heard and I'm stunned. Years ago I sat with the Pack Up The Plantation video and learned all of the songs. I loved the guy.
Incredible writer, performer, and a man of integrity.
Well, now he's with George and Roy again.
Man, too too young.
I'm free fallin
It is now being disputed and they just said he is near dead not dead?
Gone but not forgotten
