Amazing songwriter, astonishingly good band. I saw Tom and the Heartbreakers maybe 10 times over the years, always a superb experience. The world is a darker place without him. I'm glad he was here.

Tom was one of the early musical giants in my world. Very sad news on an already tragic day.

It doesn't have to, though. I am aware of so many more bands that I really like than I was back around the time Petty hit.

Not to detract at all from this being a huge loss

I was never a huge fan, but I played Full Moon Fever in the pickup truck quite a bit when my son was around 5 years old. We'd tool around the countryside, windows down, playing that real loud. I imagine this news will hit my boy kinda hard.

Thanks, Tom. RIP. Say hi to Hef. o_O

I know the feeling, that's when I personally find I've got to really dig and look.

    Hence that thread

I read about him being in the hospital earlier today and was counting on him pulling through. I've always been able to relate to his tunes and I play a few as well. This one hurts. He was way too young to leave us.

I don't know why they make those things available. Just stark exploitation of people's pain

I wasn't his biggest fan - although I have 4/5 of his albums - but he was an immense talent. A friend and former colleague of mine will be devastated today as Tom was his musical idol. Thankfully, he'd managed to see Tom at Hyde Park a month or two ago.

Why is it always the good ones that go early?

He was one of my favorite artist. Rest in peace.

I'm going to remember all of the wonderful musical moments he and the Heartbreakers gave me. Thank you.
