Well, she's a Hohner JB bass which I bought for 20 euros and she came without hardware, just a body and neck and I basically went to town with her.

An old License plate which houses the master volume and the output jack, it's as basic as it comes.

Sanded the edges down with 360 grid sandpaper, she's smooth.

Probably a better quality than average punks bass!
Is that Hohner neck made in Japan?
Looks good overall and I kinda like the slanted JB pickup in the big trench!

A punk bass is not a bass with a primped and planned beat up and cheap look. It's whatever bass you managed to steal most recently! :D

I like it! What pickup did you use? Obviously a jazz of some kind, but which one?

The neck looks like one of the nicer quality, I've had and seen some very good Korean guitars.
Not to take anything away from the punk attitude!

That's a shame. A few blood splashes would give it a real punk look.
I have an old bass I should do something with. You've given me some ideas!!!

That would be a hippie bass. A punk bass should smell like puke.

That is totally cool. Love it.

I have a sunburst Johnson P-bass copy a friend gave me; it came with a bad split P pickup so I started trying other types of pickups in the big stepped rout. I’ve tried guitar humbuckers (kinda dirty-cool but a little too wooly and indistinct on the low notes) but my fave so far has been an old EMG Select SES, which is a Strat pickup with dual blades inside the sealed plastic housing.

I positioned it like you did, so the ends of the pickup fall under the strings about where a split P pickup would...and it sounded like a P-bass but with lower output. No problemo...turn up the preamp gain to compensate and wail away.

    Cool bass! Rock that thing!
