and if the link doesn't work here's the picture in a file.

Look at state of the thing, it has all the scars of having been thrown around as much as it has, there's a pretty nasty repaired headstock break at the low E tuner, it's too bad we don't see the back of the headstock because god knows what else can be seen in the way of repairs.

Also visible is the wide neck pocket, I mean, even from the picture you can tell that you can push a couple of credit cards in there. And having owned a similar Hohner (albeit one with a plywood body) I can say from experience that that neck HAD to shift.

Note also the backplate for the built in wireless. As it states, Prince had a lot of copies made but the original was the only one which had that back plate.

Prince using the Hohner during the "Purple Rain" tour, note, no lead coming from the plug socket, the wireless doing its thing.

What it doesn't say is what kind of pickups are currently in there, they could be the Kinmans he had fitted or maybe it got the original Hohner pickups fitted back in, who knows?

Jut going from memory but I believe his old guitar tech (Kasumi?) said that he didn't like the Kinmans so they were taken out. I think they were replaced with Fender noiseless.
God knows what is in there now though - from the 3121 era he had white covers that had been blacked out with a sharpie.

Badass guitar played by an incredible player! The true king of funk guitar. And he could rock too.

Interesting to see the rear strap pin has been relocated - must have torn out the screw at some point.

Not to put his guitar playing down, but Eddie Hazel might take umbrage with that statement. Prince might also take umbrage as he didn't seem to like being confined to a genre. But he did love his guitar...

But to give you an example on why the Hohner looks like it does...
There's a clip out there of Prince and the Revolution performing "1999" at "solid gold" and he throws his guitar over the drum kit seemingly into oblivion, we don't see it coming down but it's safe to say that there was nobody there to catch it for him.

It's a great guitar, Prince is great ... But I'm curious has anyone else bought a guitar at a gas station?
That's a really strange place to pick up a guitar.

Strummer treated his guitars pretty similarly:

We shouldn't forget the great Glenn Goins who died far too young.

Nile Rodgers, IMO (which I probably don't really deserve to have, I'm not that huge of a funk devotee, but I know what I like).

Not to take anything at all away from his Royal Badness!!!

    I just noticed something.

Look closely at the right of the guitar in between the bindings, there's a hole there.

And THIS picture shows what it was for.
Look at the wire running down the MadCat's side taped up with duct tape. That's the antenna for the device. I saw a clip of Brad Gillis explaining how he actually gouged out a channel for the antenna of his built in wireless in his long suffering red Strat and the light went on in my head, Prince did the same here.

I read an article about the guy who built his Love Symbol guitars, he said Prince was bugging him for the purple one to take on tour and it was a marathon effort to finish, so it was sprayed with cheap purple sparkle department store rattlecan paint and screwed together and boxed still wet.....

Later on he took it apart and refinned it, but that concert tour it was used half-painted.

In the book "Dig if you will the Picture" the author was telling how Prince brought in an all white custom Warwick Thumb bass and asked him to paint an eye graphic on there.
No problem, easy task and it wouldn't take that long to do...

...well not exactly because Prince kept on popping back into the guy's workshop to take the bass to record and tour with it. Meaning that the guy had to disassemble and reassemble the bass several times in a span of a few months and touch up the paint work where it has worn away. In the end It took over a year before it was finally finished and glossed over.

I know someone who sold Prince one of those Hohner Prinz guitars.

This was early 2000's, at the time Prince was going to put Lollar pickups in it,
he was in the process of changing from EMG.

That tube running over the side could be for spraying water during his "climax" bit. It's probably one of the Sadowsky replicas built for that purpose.

    quote from https://www.guitar-list.com/brands/sadowsky
"When (...) Prince needed custom guitars for his Purple Rain tour in l984, he contacted luthier Roger Sadowsky. The commission called for two electric guitars that could simulate ejaculation to be delivered to his royal badness. It was like asking Baryshnikov to do the Macarena. Still, Sadowsky took the job.
The New York native cringes at the recollection:
“I made a guitar with tubes running inside the neck that shot Ivory Liquid in the air when it was hooked up to a compressor: A lot of work went into making sure the guitar sounded good. But Prince didn’t care how it sounded. He only cared that the soap went 100 feet in the air. After that I promised myself I wouldn’t do any more silly custom work.”

I'm not sure when the rout in the back was done - the very early pics/videos show the wireless system sloppily gaffa taped to the back of the guitar.

Also found a quote from Takumi (!) (from the now departed http://www.photopix.ch/guitar/) regarding some of the modifications to Prince's #1 (starting with talking about the kinman pickups, which were quickly removed)

"hi there, i installed the Triditional set.

just so you know, that guitar is one of the best tele i have ever played. it is just so easy to play and sounds great. well, after i put the kinman in. those came out and was replaced by fender noiseless (toneless) and not the tele ones but the strat ones. i guess he likes that sound better because it's what's in it now still.

that tele has a bit hole in the back (one of his tech installed another single coil in the back to make it a hum b, eliminating the noise) but sounded like ****. that's when i yanked the pickups out and put the kinman in. they were a recommendation from my friend Dave Russan. but like i said before... P really didn't dig it. so just for ****s and giggles i got a strat noiseless and he liked it. go figure.... all the funk are in his hands, it really didn't matter what was in it.

i have to say that Prince is by far the most underated guitar player. to me, he is the most talented player i have ever seen. he may not play noodling solo like all the guys in guitar player mags but he really plays in the songs and also when it's called for he really rips. and all without really trying. anyways, hope that answers your question. like i said... i love that guitar and it hurt me to find out someone dropped it and it and now broken in several spots."

Nope because the Sprayers looked like THIS.

    The hose clearly visible.

Also that picture I used was taken during the 1999 tour way before Sadowsky got involved.
    hohner.jpg
Here's one from the Purple Rain tour, showing the antenna on the top of the guitar coming out of the guitar through the hole I pointed out and traveling in between the bindings.
