Hello. I just put a new set of the Gotoh Kluson style locking tuners on my tele. I'm having a hard time making them work...they didn't come with instructions. I tried to use the grommets they supplied but they were too small, so I just used the ones that were already in the guitar (the grommets didn't seem to serve any vital function, but I could be wrong). I'm not sure how the tuners lock...it seems that the top part can be screwed down and lock the string in place, but you have to use a screwdriver or a coin in a clockwise motion to clamp it down...that seems to start the wrap and then you have to wind the string on counter-clockwise...I'm confused. I must be doing something wrong. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks for your help!

You should be able to just stick the string through the hole in the tuner and start winding. The winding motion will grab the string and lock the tuner.

It also helps if the hole is only open just enough to slip the string through. This way it takes less turning of the button for the string to start locking. Once you get used to em they're great (imo).

I'm using these on my Custom Esquire, they work great. Just like other guys said, just start winding the string. It will take hold and grab after a bit. I thought they were little awkward at first, too. After a couple string changes, I don't even think about it anymore.
