so I've been using thicker gauge strings and new calluses have started to form to adapt.

The thing is, I had a dentists appointment and ended up playing guitar while I was completely loaded. I was so out of it I ended up playing for 4 hours. At that point the strings ripped my calluses off but underneath them was just raw skin. So i kept playing for another 2 hours and felt fine afterwards. Less than 12 hours later and the raw skin underneath has already hardened into new calluses and I can play again with no problems.

SO now im curious, is it really possible to play until your fingers bleed or am I just not playing long enough?

I know a girl who plays until they bleed. I`ve seen the blood, no myth.

As a regular right handed player, of excitable tendencies ( and usually pick-less), I do actually manage it on my right hand fairly regularly.
Not on my left. Never maybe.

It's definitely not a myth. I had raw skin with a small amount of blood appear during a practice marathon. Nothing too alarming. It only happened once (over 20 years ago now), and the callouses hardened up afterwards and they've stayed that way ever since.

I play right handed and was practicing jazz picking stuff alot for a while. I participated in a loud rock jam kinda on a whim and busted open my cuticle on my right hand index finger and I bled on my guitar a little bit. Just a bit of blood splatter under the strings between the 2 humbuckers on my gibby.

Hahaha:lol::lol:, I'll admit that it did look cool I wish I had pics now that I think about it. I beleive I cleaned it up when I changed strings the next day.

you can tear the skin under your finger nail and bleed a bit if you do too much bending.
