Pine esquire thin-line with an all rosewood neck

It is time for me to build a parts-caster. I have been on TDPRI for a few years and have a few scratch built guitars and many other regular manufacturer guitars but I don't own a telecaster. I don't know why I guess I never found the right one except for a friends that his grandpa gave him.

I started out with a totally different idea but as I looked around I found a body and neck that just spoke to me. I knew I wanted a pine body but was never really keen on thinlines until I saw this on eBay. image.jpeg image.jpeg
I love the grain and the look of it and the price was so right I couldn't resist.

I would be concerned that the extra light body combined with the heavier than normal neck would give you an imbalanced guitar with neck dive.
It could be yellow pine though, which is heavier than white pine, so it may balance fine.
Otherwise it sounds cool, Esquires are all that matters. Are you painting or giving it a natural finish?

As I looked for necks I originally wanted an Allparts 62 neck with veneer board but they are a little difficult to find for a good price. Direct is high enough where it doesn't seem a very value. Then as I searched for rosewood board tele necks I came upon an all rosewood neck from Brazil it was pricy but I made an offer and got an ok deal. It is a one piece with maple plug and skunk stripe and white markers and the contrast looks so cool.

You gotta use dye on that body.

    Edit:

Dye might not be the way to go.

After looking at the photo carefully, that body looks like it's 6 pieces, maybe 7. Unless you want that striped look (because each piece will take dye, stain or oil differently, you gotta paint.

image.png Again I wouldn't have chose this combo but the telecaster gods have led me here. So since the neck has such a nice contrast I decided to go with gold hardware and a brownburst sort of two tone vintage style-ish color scheme for the body. Like this.

Yes it is quite a few pieces. I am going to use tinted nitro over shellac sealer. The grain reminded me so much of ash that I thought it would look cool to finish it like that.

I thought about the neck dive if necessary I will put weight inside.

I'm putting a heavy neck on an ultra-light body. For real. You're not.

I can't imagine this is going to be a problem for you.

image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg I haven't weighed either of them but they feel about the same weight.
For the neck I'm leaving it unfinished except for the front of the headstock so I can put a decal.

A friend made these decals for me and they have come in handy. I'm doing this guitar with a 50's kind of set up and vibe. I did decide to lacquer over the decal though.

Going to use the 50's nail stand technique. image.gif
    A coat of shellac.
    image.jpeg
Sanded and ready for shellac again. I must say I like the way shellac sands. image.jpeg
Here it is now. There aren't any mounting holes drilled in the neck for the body attachment screws or tuning machines or string tree. image.jpeg
I thought about leaving it like this but I really want to brownburst it.

Nice. I like both woods, there. I put a Musikraft cocobolo neck on my last Esquire project.

Wow that is pretty, I think the dark neck really looks nice with gold hardware. Very pretty guitar!
