I have just recently bought an Anarchy Audio 'Gain of Tones' (Western Australian Builder) overdrive (beautiful bluesbreaker style drive by the way) which has two different channels. There is usually a loud popping noise when engaging the pedal and switching between channels and occasionally an extremely loud squealing noise that wont stop until I unplug the pedal and plug it back in. Strange thing is that when the back of the pedal is removed this seems to stop.

Any ideas what might be causing it?

Is there a battery? Check the battery connection and/or put in a new battery.

I would squeal too if you kept stomping on me.

Are you powering it in a daisy-chaiin? Some pedals don't like them.

True. I had an overdrive that hated the daisy chain - popped whenever engaged - but likes the brick type PS.
