    Has anyone used this amp?

The Peavey Wiggy Head and Cab came out a few years ago. They were quite expensive when 1st introduced and now can be picked up fairly cheaply on eBay.

Hard to work out what sort of player would own this. The Wiggy must have flopped on the market because it is out of production. Maybe it will turn into a Kitsch collectable.

It is certainly unique in taking the car theme seriously. 1st guitar amp I've seen that completely redefines the controls.

Peavey Wiggy Head on eBay used with 212 cab:

    • 1 @ USD$500 Buy Now
    • 1 @ USD$650 Buy Now
    • 1 @ USD$550 Buy Now

I am sure you could find one cheaper...

It looks like the last List Price was $1100 for the head. I don't have a list price for the cab. I believe these were first sold around 2007 - 2008 time frame. Some places still have NOS sitting around. I think this amp was pretty much under the radar for most people. From Harmony Central it seems the tone is good. Apparently some complex tones and takes some fiddling to master the controls.

In Australia the List Price for the head was AUD$2495 and for the 2 x 12 cab $1495, which is crazy

My cousin had one of these when he was five -- the steering wheel is missing on this one!

My memory is often clouded by alcohol and anger, but I am almost positive I saw Kenny Vaughan playing one of those with Marty Stuart in Washington DC a few years ago...I remember thinking "WTF? They must be paying him a lot to be seen in public with that thing!"

The Wiggy was made in late 2002 and 2003, possibly early 2004 as well.

I remember trying one and thinking it sounded extremely fizzy, and the absence of reverb was a let down too.

In some ways it reminds me of a Transtube Bandit in a head form, but I think the Bandits, with more gain and reverb, sound better to my ears.

People I've known who've owned Wiggys tend to gush about how awesome they sound, but I've never been able to hear any of that awesome-ness myself.

I have noticed that if you disagree about how awesome they sound, you will be told you must be deaf, and barred from the Wiggy fan club for life...

This Japanese demo accurately reflects the tones I remember getting from a Wiggy:

I challenge someone, anyone, to post a clip of the Wiggy that can show a better side of that amp...

ps. I just noticed that they're selling the head and the cab together for 45,000 yen, which is about $570. That's an unbelievable price for a NEW with warranty 100 watt guitar amp with 2x12 speakers.

Even comparable Chinese solid state amps cost more than that in Japan...

They must have bought a bunch when they were new, and now they're stuck with them, so they're trying to dump them at or below cost.

Those cabs are actually pretty nice.

Funny a Wiggy is like having a family dog that is so ugly its cute. The product has me thinking it was a Western attempt to duplicate USSR electric guitar technology. Electric guitars produced in USSR and Eastern Europe were detached from the Western world as far as visual influence, government bureaucracy and lack of decent components. They were shockingly bad and awkward in the extreme. But sometimes ugliness can be good in a inverse way, like for example punk rock. I've tried to find material on USSR guitar amplifiers and have not been able to find a single written references or photograph. Quite possibly Wiggies are actually these missing Soviet amplifiers and the government is till trying to move them out of the warehouses. There must be some music genre the Wiggy fits into like PolkaPunk, GeekPunk, PetrolPunk, MotorheadPunk?

What Car Dashboard was the Wiggy Styled After?

Can anyone work out what car dashboards influenced the Wiggy design?

Wiggy Controls Aren't Labelled like a Regular Amp
    They Function Like Car Controls

    (High Octane) Hi Input
    (Low Octane) Lo Input
    (More) Gain Control
    (RPM) Gain Control
    (BOOST) Post EQ gain
    (BATT) Low frequency boost
    (OIL) Mid frequency control
    (TEMP) High frequency control
(Hazard Flashers) Flash when More Switch is engaged
    • Five Band Graphic EQ
    • Power Light
    • Presence
    • Resonance
    • T-Dynamics (power output level)
    • Power switch (Ignition)

Looks like a premonition of the Pawnshop amps Fender is getting ready to release.

That kind of retro-chic is great... but only so long as you get nice tone from it. I kinda sorta like the concept for the head. The cabinet design looks like something from the house in Beetlejuice. Yikes.

With that top curve and full engine turned panel and block numbering, cove-era Vette without question.

Not art deco enough for the '32 Ford pict. you have there.

I don't see much of resemblance myself. I guess I'm biased, my 77 has the same layout as the 68 with the 5 in the center deal. The amp was about 3x larger than I thought too, I was thinking it was just a little guy like the greta lol.

You have to wonder about an amp where there is only one known YouTube video. Is the Wiggy the Edsel of the amp world?

    Perfect for a White Stripes/Black Keys-type band.
