Just took a walk over to an old New York City landmark and had a few slices. Super thin crust and great sauce. Wood fired oven makes all the difference.

What are some favorite pizza joints in your town and why?

There's a joint up the road from us, "A N.Y. Slice" makes some great pizza. An Italian place further on down the road we've been going to for years, we've never bought a pizza from, can't get past the stromboli and calzones. He always asks when we come in to pick it up why we never get the pizza.

D.C. and surrounding area have Armands, special in Chicago style deep dish. They just closed the main restaurant at Tenley but still have Silver Spring, Cap Hill, Rockville and Gburg. The big thing is that they make the dough daily and use very fresh ingredients.

Here in Austin it's Home Slice, though I hear good things about East Side Pies, too.

In Ocean City, Maryland, it's Johnny's Pizza.

In Fort Collins, Colorado, I like Cozzola's, with honorable mention to Pulcinella Pizzeria.

South Bend and Elkhart Indiana area is home to a population of Italians. Family names running restaurants in the area. From the thinner more cheesy pizza of Volcano's pizza in Elkhart, a slightly thicker Bruno's pizza to my personal favorite Columbo's pizza in Elkhart.
A friend who now owns Massimo's pizza in Niles, Michigan, just over the state line. Family is the owners of the above mentioned Bruno's and Columbo's. The wedding reception was one I provided band sound for. The quote of the night was the toast by one of his family members. Nobody in Elkhart is getting a good pizza tonight.

My dad living in West Virginia will get into town and the first thing he wants to do is go out for pizza.

In Baltimore, I like Fortunato's. a bunch of 20-25 year old guys speaking Italian to each other behind the counter, and one old guy who never says a word but who is obviously in charge. Definitely the best NY style I've had up here.

We are an Italian/Jewish family from New York. We just ordered Zito's Pizza in Orange, California. The dough is nice and crusty and plenty of toppings and the sauce has a great tomato taste. It is not the supreme best but it is very good and it reminds us of home. We ordered a meatball, mushroom , black olive bomb.

Pino's in St. Paul and Grimaldi's in Scottsdale. Both large, thin NY style slices.

Tim, there's quite a buzz about this place: via313

Apart from a guy with a wfo on a trailer, there's not much to write home about in my neck of the woods in upstate NY. I make my own.

    Patsy's is coal-fired.

Around here, it's Randy's. NY style pizza, pretty decent, but, Mrs Mania and prefer making our own. Usually a Roman style crust, with a drizzle of olive oil between the crust/sauce and sauce/cheese layers. Toppings are usually pretty humble; they're generally some mix of tomatoes, peppers, basil, and chicken.

+1 on Grimaldis (Reno, Scottsdale, San Antonio, all equally outstanding)

There are NO good pizza places in Colorado to my knowledge and research.

Rumor is that Frank used to have Patsy's pizza flown to him when he was outa town.
I wonder if Johnny's is still in Mt. Vernon (Mt. Vermin). Gramatan Ave, I think.
Best thin crust anywhere if your tastes run that way.
    Pizza in PA...? Fuhgeddaboudit.
