Yea this is my way of thinking also.
I'm more than happy with the current look so after a bunch of clad, I think it will look great

The only other option you might consider is some cream or white pinstriping at say 3/16ths an inch for a faux binding effect, or if you are feeling EXTRA sporty, real binding.

I am rather excited of the possibilities. worked with my file for a bit this afternoon trying some other things.

Imagine a GOLD bubble background. Or, a seafoam/surfy one?

Be sure (I don't know how) that the clear doesn't work its way under the edges forcing the vinyl up and creating a horror show. Looks awesome now.

I would suggest mist coats as a matter of course. Plenty of mist coats before laying down serious clear. six or seven even.
That technique alone has allowed me past a lot of refinishing pitfalls.

They both look great. Maybe I'll go with one of them when I do a paisley strat lol.

    Good advice
This is what I was thinking. I was going to give the vinyl a light rub with super fine scotchbrite pad also just to knock the gloss off it

warning: try it on scrap first, you may wreck the ink.

Got the paisley virus in my system again, seeing this thread. Was working on a few more variations, and added a new burbly "foil" background that I think looks even more accurate.

Antigua Paisley... Fantasy dream, or terrible nightmare? LOL!

While we wait for further updates on this very cool project, I bring you
"Pink Champagne in Antigua", just foolin' around.

Duplicolor makes a spray can of something called Adhesion Promoter. You may want to use something like that instead of physically knocking down the shine.

    Test on a scrap first.

Oh really? I'll have a look for that

Ive actually already done so on this build. Just use a scotchbrite pad, worked quite well. Knocked the shine off without messing with the print. It was a bit scary though lol

As the excruciating wait continues for a new update or pictures of this far out project, we can lose ourselves in the earthy grooviness of the fabled '67 tobacco burst paisley that never made it past the fender factory doors

Thanks for the warning. This is automotive vinyl that can be clear coated. I've also tested a piece that I Sprayed about a month ago and it's still perfect.

It is entirely possible to make the mid pink (or any) layer slightly transparent to various degrees simulating age fade, as well as duplicate hungover silk screening guy syndrome and the resulting poor registration during the inking process.

The clock continues to tick, as the paisley viral infection grows within us. Out of control, replicating themselves ad infinitum, these flowery amoeba-paramecium creatures continue to swoop, swim, swarm and swirl in our minds threatening to take over our whole being.
With that I bring you "A Different Kind of Pink."
