Remember when Crates were wooden crates? (The old farts will remember).

This is for sale on the Milwaukee Craigslist for $115......

    60 watt SS Crate with 1 x 12 bottom. Late 70's.

It would probably make a good huka stand under a black light. You could probably even play your bass through it. Maybe.

Oh the good old days. Who remembers?

    I remember . . . gotta be solid state, right? Late '70s - early '80s?

I remember. These things sounded like GARBAGE! Hahahahaaa! Crate did improved a lot through the 80's, and did some downright wonderful stuff in the 90's. Then they just got weird, then St. Louis Music sold out to Loud Technologies and everything went overseas.

The American made 90's stuff was largely bulletproof Peavey level reliability. And sounded pretty freakin good. But I don't think they ever escaped the stigma of being toy amps. Too bad.

I had an early 80's Crate SS with a Celestion, was pretty good if I recall...

I remember the original wood Crate amps, jammed with a guy one time who had one and it sounded decent, but he bought a Peavey Classic 50 4-10 from me and loved it, so that kinda tells the story.

It's your cash but I wouldn't pay $115 for one of those, then again I probably wouldn't buy one unless I got it real cheap to flip it.

I remember them. They fit the name back then. It was a gimmick but at least an original one. I never played through one though.

    Yup, me too.
We called em' Crape amps if you catch my drift.
The company did start making better products later.

I wanted a Crate when I started playing electric. I was a kid and thought they looked pretty cool. Unfortunately I had to make due with a darn old Fender Princeton.
Wish I still had the darn old Fender Princeton!
Never got a Crate but I'm over it now.

I remember a buddy bought one new back in the day. Ran a Peavey T60 thru a Rat pedal into it.

I guess the Rat kinda became a classic. The others not so much.
