I've been looking at these for nearly a week with a serious case of post-holiday GAS! IMO the double bound body alone seems worth the price and the headstock, while not terrible, could still be reworked to a more "traditional" shape...

Darn! If only I waited longer... I have a "Rocket Red" (Fiesta Red) XV-820, sweet tones, sounds wicked pissah, but that double bound business? SEXY! I highly recommend the XV-820, I'm about to replace the neck soon too, since that neck is FREAKIN' ridiculous. Good luck with your GFS tele man!

That's the same headstock of the Douglas models at Rondo who offer a single bound Thinline version for less.

Word has it that the Douglas plant is no more, so these are going away.

    Here's the p90 version.

And there's always the double bound SX for $109

How hard would it be to stick an ashtray bridge on an SX? Will the holes line up?

    Therein lies the problem. No.

Although I'm modding one now that I've taken the finish off down to the wood, so I decided, why not. I've come this far. Plug, dowel, & re-drill. It's gonna have the grain finish.

The other mod, if you search, is the re-drill of the sled to accommodate the 3 barrel saddle. I actually like the way that looks & am considering it too.

Some of the Douglas come with top loader ashtrays, so that would be an easier platform.

I think if GFS were doing the surf green maple with the more traditional headstock , I'd be counting coins for a quick purchase . Damn Gas........

I've had this one sitting at my local UPS all weekend, they are supposed to deliver it Wednesday.

I do plan on rounding that headstock to a more traditional look.

What are the chances of swapping out the neck with a Fender spec with no issues?

Is that real binding, or is it painted?

Well, i'm not sure with a fender neck, but I did this with an all parts fat neck on my Xavier. I had to shim the neck up b/c it seemed like the neck pocket was to deep but it fit right in there.

Same as Rondo neck specs. A bit too big.

Real binding. Nice fret work better then a lot of mim teles. Just that headstock that's annoying.
