Sycamore sounds good to me. Thanks.

Dave, if you're worried about derailing this thread, then apparently you haven't been reading my threads. It seems to be SOP :) edit: And it is good to hear from you.

Rick, I haven't decided on the finish yet. I'm thinkin' Danish oil - shellac - lacquer. Rattle can. I'm still not talking to my sprayer. It does what it wants. Mostly throws up on whatever I spray.

Know what you mean about the sprayer. Sometimes feels like you got away with something when it goes right. My guess, based on your neck of the woods, would be moisture in the compressed air, something I've fought around here too. Long hose on basement (cool) floor, and moisture trap right at the gun input seems to have tamed the problem. Kinda. Sometimes.

Yeah, could be humidity. Could be the cheapest guns HF has to offer. Could be lack of skill. Probably a little bit of all that.

Concerning moisture in compressed air. They say 25' of pipe between the compressor and first water trap, 25' more before second water trap, followed by regulator and hose. Make sure the pipe runs downhill toward the compressor and have a drain at the low point of the pipe in addition to the tank drain. Why so much pipe? You have to let the compressed air (hot) cool so the water condenses out. Oh yeah, and a disposable filter at the gun. Sound like a lot of trouble? Maybe, but I've done it and it works.
    cheers,
    Woody

Oh, well, I just assumed you knew one of the requirements for a good spray job was to properly lick the chicken, as demonstrated in Robs photo. I've always assumed that part of Herb's fabulous paint jobs is his mastery of this important element.

I have to be careful with the shellac. I use Everclear for that.
