I got this from a very nice guy here on TDPRI who made me a nice deal.
I guess I've fallen prey to the Stratotone mystique.
This is a Rex, probably made by Kay and distributed by Gretsch.
This is very similar, except with the pickup in the middle...neck-through construction...with the FATTEST neck I've ever felt.
Pretty sure it's beefier than my '36 Duolian.
    This is borderline ridiculous.
1 7/32" at the 3rd fret and 1 7/16 at the 11th...the heel begins after that.
Not sure if the pic does it justice.
Pretty sure I've held thinner baseball bats.
    Pot code 304544.
    44th week of '55.
    Is it possible it's '45?
I have a Rex amp (made by Magnatone, I think) from '47...
This pickup is POWERFUL. Really overdrives the amp.
I thought my Supro Dual-Tone had the ultimate slide tone...I need to A/ them.
    This Rex KILLS for slide.
The tone control is the one closest to the strings (!) and the switch is 2 position.
One is a mud setting like the early Teles.

Y'know...I didn't have much time and a when I hit on that cranked tweed Deluxe slide tone, I got sucked in and didn't do much else.
    Very rock and roll!
Has a nice range of tones, though, for a 1 pickup guitar.
Looking forward to spending more time with it and plugging it into the 58 Bassman!

AND...while searching the web for info on this guitar, I came across THIS.
Not exactly the same...the pick guard is a little different, but the guitar is substantially the same.
Not many with a mid-mounted pickup.
Now I have TWO guitars with 1 pickup in the middle.

I can yell into the pickup and it comes out the amp.
Can't wait to gig it this weekend!

Yeah! When I saw your Rex, my mind immediately went to that picture of Elmore. I was about to go googling for it but see you already found it.

That thing is very cool. When I see guitars like this I always think of tunes like these:

Joe Willie Wilkins in the first one with Sonny Boy and Willie Johnson on the second with Wolf.

This guitar has some very weird dimensions.
How about a shredworthy 1 13/16 nut width?

    Yup!
    That's the stuff!
I've got a '47 Magnatone amp that makes those sounds with this guitar.
