Well my trade deal on the Ibanez fell through, sadly, the guy had an emotional bond with the instrument and simply couldn't part with that guitar, which I completely understand.

But because he felt sorry for me, I got some welcome spare parts and THIS.

Well it's a Fernandes Vertigo, an early 2000'th model, it doesn't play badly but I'm not sure if I'll keep it.

But when trying to find out more about the model, I found that the Fernandes site hasn't been updated since 2014 and the last new models they released were from 2012.

So does anybody know what the deal is here?

Don't know if they're still in business but I really dig that guitar. It's a neat shape and even the color is cool. Kind of reminds me of something the boy from the Jetsons might play. Lol

I believe that their business is still going in japan, but have no American distributor anymore, but I could be wrong. When I Googled them and was directed to their website, at the bottom of the page is says "copyright 2019 Fernandes Guitars".

Looking on Ebay, there are six pages of Fernandes guitars, mostly used, but 150 of them are new, and some of those are labeled Greco and Burny, like this odd Strat style, with the middle pickup right next to the bridge one, and slanted just like it, too.

    Way cool.

I have been pondering to mod mine too but my intention is to bring that "eighties metal guitar" part out even more.

So with this Ibanez Destroyer as an example, my plan is to replace all the black hardware with chrome, the black pickup rings with cream ones, dump the black potmeter knobs for amber colored Gibson style "Speed knobs" and fit Dimarzio buckers in there.

This Ibanez Iceman is the same tint of blue as my Fernandes is, giving a preview of what resulting look will hopefully be.

I always thought that the Ibanez Destroyer looked better than the Gibson Explorer.
    Always liked the Iceman too.

Destroyer with Dimarzio Super Distortion bridge and the Dimarzio 36th Anniversary PAF in the neck would be awesome.

Yeah I always wanted one of those because of me being a fan of Iron maiden.

Although Adrian Smith' example was red.

And most recently he seemed to have taken a step "Somewhere back in time..."

The block inlays and the body binding are clear giveaways that this isn't his original one.

I had a black one, it's one of the few guits I've let go over time, and I regret having done so

I also had one that looked just like this
    [IMG]

They were not called Vertigo then, but something like "H-65". I really liked that giant deco pickguard on it. But it didn't play or sound great, and I found with your hand over the lower bout, it didn't look like anything unique, really. So I sent it on it's way

I used to work for Fernandes USA. They continue to do well in Japan but couldn't really break into the US market. I think it had a lot to do with trying to work in a niche already being filled by Ibanez, Tokai, ESP, etc. Much of their Indo/Taiwan/Korean/China made stuff is garbage, but their Japanese made models are very nice and the ones from the 70s/80s copy era are legendary.

I snapped up a few cool ones that came through the shop while I was there (including an all mahogany, Burny branded H-65/Vertigo with P-90s, and a Jazzmaster shaped Decade Deluxe). None became keepers though.

If there's a Fernandes that I would love to own some day, it has to be one of these.
    Lukather.jpg
In a very short space of time, Steve Lukather endorsed Fernandes before Valley Arts came around. Making the Fernandes Lukather signature models rare as rocking horse plops.

My high school music teacher had one of those and I always loved the way those looked and sounded.

There was a second Fernandes Lukather, which was a copy of his red and gold Schecter strat.
Lukather can be seen using it in the video for "Africa"
