I travel a bit for work and was looking for a guitar to take with. I've taken small acoustics with me when we could drive and that has been fine, but I'm flying half the time. I'm usually traveling with computers and tools so have limited space for personal items like a guitar. I was really looking for something that could fit inside a large checked suitcase or bag. The Traveler brand of guitars interested me, but I was looking for something even cheaper to knock around. Thought about building something that was basically just a neck with strings. Just something to noodle on in the hotel room. A few nights ago I was browsing GC's used inventory and noticed a guitar listed as "Used Traveler Guitar SPEEDSTER Red Electric Guitar" for $149. The pictures hadn't been uploaded yet, but the price was right so I decided to buy it sight unseen. It was about $75-$100 less than other used Speedsters I had been seeing. Picked it up at my local GC yesterday and it turns out it's a Speedster Hot Rod V2 with the coil tap and built in amp. lol. 3 of the 4 amp modes are actually serviceable with ear buds. The previous owner was even nice enough to include a strap. I thought things turned out pretty well for an impulse buy. These things only come in 2 finishes so if you've seen one you've pretty much seen them all. It's really not too bad and will serve it's purpose well. I haven't played it long and hard yet, but it did stay in tune from last night until this morning. Using it with the strap is less awkward than without. Tuning will be a little weird until I get used to it and I'm not looking forward to the first restring.
