6A4418FE-E492-4679-B0D0-77081BBF145E.jpeg For a while, I’ve been mulling over whether to get a Strat. I’ve never owned one before. My first electric... way back in ‘88, was a black Strat knockoff. A Hondo. It was a perfectly fine starter guitar, but it also probably had something to do with me never going back to that body style.

Plus, at one time, they were so... standard. It seemed like everyone played them. And I wanted to stand out a little more. I think that’s why my first real electric was a ‘90 American Standard Tele. At the time at least, there didn’t seem to be as many people playing Teles. At least in rock.

Maybe I’m crazy, but it seems like you see more Teles than strats these days.

Anyway, when I went in the store, I wasn’t sure I was going to get a strat. I also tried a gently used Brad Paisley Tele, another guitar I’d been lusting over a while.

In the end, the Hendrix strat won me over just a little more. But it was close. I just liked the idea of having something different in the old toolbox.

I was in a similar situation and decided to get a Vintage brand strat.

Just edited in one for tonight. I’ll take more tomorrow. It’s really sharp.

Wind the low-pitched E string backwards on the tuning peg so that key operates the opposite compared to the other tuning keys.

Nice guitar but a bit confusing. Is it for lefty’s or does it have a bit of identity crisis? :D

It’s a half-assed nod to the fact that jimis strats were upside down. Note the bridge pickup.

    Cool. Congrats!
Tune it down a step and plug it straight into a Marshall stack. Yum.

I worshipped at the alter of the original Hendrix 68 in Seattle last year and promised to build myself a replica but haven't.

CONGRATS! I had a Voo Doo when they came out. Theres been at least 3 or 4 versions. I tried the latest at GC. That one was a piece of garbage. Obviously yours isn t or you wouldn t have got it. Are they still the CS'69 p-ups ?

On this one, all three pickups are American Vintage '65 Gray-Bottoms.

I’ve put it through a couple of extended workouts today. It’s a great guitar. No regrets at all.

It’s probably my current #1, because it’s a shiny new toy. But I have three electrics currently, and I believe all three have the “wow” factor. And they’re all different enough that I can see all three getting plenty of use.

But back to this strat... I’m mildly ashamed of myself for being anti-strat for so long. But I became a player just before the world lost SRV. And because of him, everyone and his brother was playing a strat. So, I got a Tele. Because Keith.

I’d probably be impressed by the little things that make this guitar different if I had more strat experience. You know, the upside down headstock and pickups especially. But to me, it just sounds like a great strat. And me.

I can see it shining equally well in both my classic rock and funk groups. Maybe a slight edge in the funk group.

They sound a little different than an ordinary Strat because the bridge pickup is pointing differently. But, I saw Hendrix live twice, and believe me, you gotta have two dual Marshall stacks behind you to get Hendrix sound. Playing like Hendrix helps, but loud helps, too.

Always thought they should've done a Lefty tremolo on these like the SRV had.

Better late than never... I skipped town right after this post. Traveling with the girlfriend. Currently in North Myrtle Beach, SC.

Still loving this baby. Plays like a dream.
