Long time reader of this forum and finally have my first Telecaster. I've been searching for a vintage style Tele for a while now and struggled to find something that felt good for a reasonable price. Ideally, I wanted (and still want) a 60's blonde with a rosewood neck, but just can't justify the 64 AVRI right now. This forum has really helped me research and narrow down the choices; I just struggle to find anything in my area to try.

I was traveling in New England recently and I dropped into a Guitar Center to kill some time before an appointment. In the used section was a beautiful 50's style blonde Tele with a nice amber maple board. The ticket read "2006 Standard Butterscotch Tele" and was priced pretty low. After looking the guitar over, I realized it was a Baja Tele. The white pickguard and darker neck threw me off since all of the Baja's I've seen were butterscotch and had a very pale neck. It must be the Desert Sand but has yellowed to look more like an aged blonde. I never bonded with any new Baja's I've played in the store, but this one just felt great. Needless to say, I snatched it quickly and flew her home. I Didn't think I would like a gloss neck, but this feels really nice. IMG_3077.JPG IMG_3078.JPG

    Welcome to TDPRI!

She's a beauty. If she plays as good as she looks, you got a keeper!

$299 with a gig bag. Just came in that morning and priced as a Standard MIM Tele. How could I leave it?
For that price I could justify a set-up, so I had a local guy go over the guitar and he let me hand out and watch while he explained everything he was doing and why. It was like taking a class, so well worth the money. She had some serious fret buzz in store but plays great now.

Does it have the 60th anniversary button on the back of the headstock? Then you have the initial year the Baja was introduced, 60 years after the original Fender Corp. was established.

Maybe you should check the serial number in the registry that is in the Baja owners club, just to see if everything is on the up-and-up. Here's the link:

Congrats! Nice score! Reminds me a little of my 06 Classic 50s Tele. It has the 60th Anniversary button on back of headstock. You got a great price on yours! :)

It has the 6o on the headstock and 2006 stamped in the neck pocket. I entered the serial on one of the online Fender searches and it showed up as a 2006 Baja. Everything else on the guitar checks out. No wear at all on the frets so it looks like it was just sitting around until someone sold it. I’ll definitely join the owners club. Thanks. I even asked a couple of guys one the store if it was maybe a Partscaster. They told me it was a regular tele and the vintage parts were because it was a 60th Anniversary. I didn’t bother to question it further-just bought it before someone else got it.

It sure makes the "which Tele to buy" decision so much easier when a deal comes along.

Everyone on earth finds great deals on stuff except me.

The closest I came is my Behringer keyboard amp, but come on:

    It's a freaking Behringer and doesn't count.

2006 was the year that started it all for the Baja craze.
