I dont know how this model eluded me all these years. Had I seen them earlier I would have picked it up right away. This Fender Troy Van Leeuwen Jazzmaster just arrived today. Got her from ZZSounds using their awesome interest free payment plan using my own card. Sold a 7 string I wasn’t really using to compensate as well.

Just look at her!! She’s gorgeous. The color is “ox blood red”..how cool is that?! Plus the bound neck and block inlays, I just couldn’t pass her up. Made in Mexico but all american parts and electronics. Going to take her tomorrow to my luthier for a full setup, locking tuners and strap locks. Definitely need to change those thin strings that came on it as well.

Oh..and the sound is superb!! I still need to research what that second switch is doing though. I know it switches between the standard 3 way, master vol/tone, but I’m not sure what pickup it’s using when switching it to use the other circuit. Sounds awesome on all settings though!!

Edit: Found out how the second switch works. Makes perfect sense now! Good ole Google :)

Nice man. Looks great. Is that a matching headstock too or is it black? I love my Jazzmaster and gig with it regularly. Just wish it wasn't so dang heavy. Mine is around 9lbs.

Thanks Jsil13!! This one is pretty heavy as well. And yes, the headstock is matching! It’s gorgeous. I’ll take more and closer pics tomorrow.

Compare the Bridge PU on this to your Tele, is it harsher, sweeter, cleaner, heavier?
What does it sound like compare to a Tele.

Exactly the same for me. How did I miss JM's for 30 years !? It's probably the guitar I play most, now.

Nice guitar, by the way. Cool colour. Are there any special features for the Troy van Leeuwen model ( apart from the cosmetics)?

If the switching is typical Jazzmaster, then the lower controls do exactly what you'd expect, and engaging the upper controls automatically throws you on the neck pickups (regardless of the position of the lower switch) and puts the signal through the upper volume and tone pots, the tone pot being of a lower value than the "normal" tone pot, giving you a more typically "jazzy" tone.
