Suspense is killing me. Just arrived in MI from IA.

I am thinking let it warm up for a day before unpacking.

    Am I being overly Cautious?

I’ve never waited more than twenty minutes, and that was for a VOS ‘59 335. I usually wait a few minutes, take the case out of the box, wait a few minutes, unlatch the case, wait a few minutes, and out she comes.

Of course, I don’t mind finish checking, though I’ve never gotten any.

You’re being over-cautious, or let’s just call it ‘patient’. ;)

I’ve had many guitars ship in from all over and have never waited with unboxing unless the package felt extremely cold. In that case I would wait about an hour.

Never had any issues so what are you waiting for? Show us that tele already! :)

I live in MI, had guitars shipped from many places in the winter, mostly old flattops. Those suckers can seriously check.

I used to let the box sit for 2-4 hours if it was cold, like below 20F. Then I’d pull the case out and let it sit another couple hours. Then I’d open the case, look for a second, close it up. A couple hours later I’d take it out and play it.

All you’re really worried about is finish checking. No harm in being safe. I checked a ‘53 Martin 00-17 like nobody would believe on the same winter day I bought it when I stopped and played in a bluegrass jam in a barn on the way home. Very cold night & the place was heated with a wood stove. The guitar checked by me walking around the pole barn, from near freezing to hot. Checked my HD-35 the same way by playing at a campfire on a 40F night. No big deal to me, but it sure can happen.

Worth the wait, slight wear on the pickguard, a couple very tiny dings. Spectacular. I had to sell my last one about 5 years ago during some hard times. It's all good now.

I would say cool guitar, but that is so endemic to 52s it's a superfluous comment.:)

Great patterning. That series had the best body and neck shade IMO. That one's sweet. Congrats.

I think these really are a super modern classic. Old ones hold value and they're just a consistently solid guitar.

Considerer Fender's basically been making this guitar for 70 years almost unbroken with detail difference. That's staggering. And they've spawned imitators and derivatives. And + plug one in, they just sound great almost regardless of genre of music.

Congratulations. I sold my 1998 52 AVRI several years back during some lean times too. Bought a 2005 last year. Little bit heavier but the neck is the most comfortable one I own. Nicer than my old one.

Congratulations! I have a 2007 model that looks just like that, and my appreciation for that guitar continues to grow. I wouldn’t turn down a different make or series, but there is something special about an AV for sure.
