So I just recently purchased a Tele Kit project. I've always wanted a Telecaster, and always wanted to build my own, so I found a cheap kit online (100$ with shipping). There are a few defects in the mahogany body, and the hardware and electronics are crap, but figured it'd be a great way to start, and figure some stuff out, before making any serious investments. Came across TDPRI and it's wealth of knowledge (and opinions) about putting guitars together, finishing, setting up, etc... Almost everything I google comes back with a link to TDPRI. So I joined. I'll post some pics of my project, and hopefully many more.

Welcome yep this is the place. The pickups may surprise you who knows, but a worthwhile initial investment for not much $ would be some CTS pots and a Oak Grigsby switch. Those parts usally ARE crap in those $100 kits. A TUSQ nut would be nice too. Maybe post a photo of the parts if you can. Good luck!

Thanks for the warm welcomes... Where should I post pics of my kit/build? I'm probably going to put it together with the parts in the box and swap out as needed.

    Welcome!

Go to Tele Home Depot to start a thread about your build.

How do you plan to finish it? Paint? Dye? Oil?

    FABRIC!?

    You see, we're nuts here.

Can you post a photo of the bridge?

I wouldn't do any drilling for that if you don't think it's gonna be good enough.

I was surprised by the pickups. They actually sound great! Agree about the nut. That plastic piece has to go. And the tone pot is basically an on off switch. The will need to be switched out as well. There's no tone gradient at all.
