I know. I originally just painted the front but that looked weird, so I painted it all. I was loving that sycamore.

That looks great!! What is the weight? Is sycamore heavy or is it comparable to say alder?

The sycamore is pretty heavy. This having the thick poplar top cuts the weight a little but it is still heavy. The body and neck are at a little over 7.5lbs right now. It will be close to 10lbs when finished.

Face-grain gluing is generally very strong, but you're probably dealing with two different species of wood in that joint. Because of the possibility of wood movement at different rates I would think seriously about some sort of shape other than two flat surfaces. Probably not necessary to have a beveled dovetail but some sort of mortise would be a good idea depending on how comfortable you are laying out and cutting the joinery.

Having said that, IMHO it's not necessary and without neck bolts you'd lose the ability to do the chiropractor trick to align the neck after assembly. Hey, part of the charm of Fender's designs is that they were bolted together with all the screws showing - and no apologies.

Really late updating this. We adopted a little boy and adjusting life enough to get in the shop has been hard. But I did finally finish this build. Is a great little guitar for having almost no money in it. Last picture is of the little boy that has flipped my world upside down. Haha. 1511747819616.jpg 1511747823677.jpg 1511747832373.png

Thanks! Has been an adjustment for sure but wouldn't trade him for anything.

This !, this is the color for my next build.

Hey how about a close up of the white-white-white paint and binding scheme please.
Front pic was a little blurry.

I ended up just painting over the binding. I just took a couple pictures. Guitar is kinda dirty so you will have to excuse that.

I'm still digging it. Thank you. I saw the binding scheme on a lester once and have thought about trying it. That binding and paint was just a different tint enough to work.
    Hows it play?

Plays great. I got the action at 1.5mm and it is really smooth playing. I am not a fan of the Wilkerson p90s though. May swap them eventually.

Lower the p90s and raise the adjustible pole pieces...

This should allow some more articulation...
