New Eminence Lady Luck speakers? New Photos!

Does anybody have any ears-on experience with these speakers. I was thinking of ordering a 4 x 12 cab, and I was wanting to see what the impressions are of these.

They're the new Eminence speakers that were made for the new Epi tube amps.

    Anybody?

Are those available separately, or are they custom to Epi?

Seems like there are plenty of other Emmi models to choose from.

Speaking of that Epi amp, dod anyone ever snag a schemo? If so, please email it to schematicheaven.com so it will be available to us all.

I don't know if they are available separately yet or not.

I know there are others to choose from, but I'm trying to find an affordable 4 x 12 cab, and the Epi So-Cal looked like it could be a good candidate.....made from 11 ply wood, not mystery particle-board-like-material, and name-brand speakers, not mystery units. There are cheaper units, but the construction and speakers are non-specified.

Ahh, lemme understand this. You want a 4x12, and Epi makes one loaded with Lady Lucks? And the price is reasonable? Or am I off base?

    Exactly.

Their new So-Cal model 4 x 12 with 4 Eminence speakers goes for $299 with free shipping from Musician's Fiend, and it's made of ply, not particleboard. I just wanted to know if anybody had any info about these...good or bad...before I took the plunge. There are several 4 x 12s available for that price, some even have Celestions, but do not claim to be made of plywood.

Wow, $299 is pretty inexpensive. If you get one, let us know how well it is *really* made. You have to figure about half that is in the speakers. That leaves about $150 for the cab itself.

These speakers are used as "stock" in the new Supro Re-issue amp that was reviewed in Guitarist magazine. Gave them a thumbs up (including the amp). Supposedly they are also making a 2X12 cab for around 250pounds (not sure what that is in $ though)

I have a chance to buy an Ampeg 4 x 12 guitar cab. Anybody know anything about those?

OK, here's the specs on the Lady Lucks right from Eminence:

Thank you for your inquiry. Eminence and Epiphone engineers collaborated to
develop the Lady Luck speaker specifically for the new line of Epiphone
Amplifiers. The development and testing of this speaker has been in process for
about two years. The speaker is a 16 ohm model and is rated for 70 watts RMS.
Each speaker sports a custom Epiphone/Eminence finish in Mustard Yellow along
with the Lady Luck label on the back. The speaker has a stamped steel frame, a
front rear sealing gasket, a 34 oz magnet, 1.75" voice coil, a full paper cone
with paper edge, and a cloth dust cap. This speaker has a sensitivity of 99dB
and a useable frequency range from 80Hz-5kHz. It has a very smooth response
from the low-end through the mid range. It also has a very nice top end sparkle.
The speaker was engineered to exhibit very warm, and smooth break-up modes. The
tonality of the amp is such that very little tonal coloration from the speaker
was desired. Consequently, the speaker was engineered to provide a subtle, yet
    effective compliment to the amplifier.

It's a pretty good descripton of the speaker. They have an even response accross the tonal spectrum. Solid lows, soft mids, and clear, clean highs. They really don't have much of a character on their own, so they won't color an amps natural tone.

Thanks, I'll try this cab out for a while and see how I like it. It was the only one in this price range with name brand speakers and plywood construction.

    UPDATE:

Well, I got the Epi So-Cal 4 x 12 cab in. It arrived in perfect condition, a big relief. It's not as heavy as I thought it would be. This is one nice looking cabinet. The speakers don't seem to color the sound much...if at all. I can't say as to whether they break up early or late. I was afraid the speakers might be really bright, but that's not the case at all, they seem very moderately voiced.

It has a single 16 ohm input, and since I have several amps that can drive an external speaker, I'm gonna change it to two 8 ohm inputs. (My amps that will handle 16 will handle 8 and 4 also, but I have some amps that won't handle 16 very well. Plus at home, I could plug a different amp into each side.)

They don't seem to be selling them individually.

Looks like it's a "special design" for Gibson to load into Epiphone tube amps. Which means there's no spec sheet at the Eminence website. It's probably a perfectly good lower-cost ceramic speaker that'll last a long time and have a reasonably wide range of tones.

I think someone needs to trot down to Guitar Center, try out an Epi amp or two, and report back.
