    Metallic Wood ?

That’s the band name that James and Lars and them use when they’re playing acoustic pop-up gigs.

They’re not great but at least they’re much quieter...

Interesting, looks like honeycomb composite that's been around for decades, but more 3d.
Sounds expensive, complicated manufacture process, I think I'll stick with wood.

Stuff grown on trees ya know!

I like this idea. Hopefully it gets to be common technology, to the extent that it's reliably and economical.
I don't like the contradictions with the current level of development: "We don’t know, for example, whether our metallic wood would dent like metal or shatter like glass." ....this sorta thing might need to be ironed out(ha) before we get too excited.
Like so many stories, it seems like an idea that has been fooled with a little.... but... gets press well before perhaps it should.

Press is the operative word - this is a reporter creating a "gee-wiz" story out of a laboratory success.

At a place where I worked, a scientist published an article about using citric acid to separate chemicals from contaminated soil.

Paul Harvey reported that scientists at my work place had created a way to clean up pollution using orange juice!

Fill the space with graphene nanotubes and have a battery-powered electric acoustic guitar.

Sounds like metallic foams (which have been around for some time) to me...but with spaces at the nano level. These have ancestors in high-porosity, sintered metal bearings (like Oilite), which were first introduced in the 1930's. Completely different process but...

    Oooooh. metal that floats! Sciencey!

It's an intriguing concept, and I'd be interested to learn whether acoustic resonance was even one of their design parameters. Generally anything that's got loads of open cells like that tends to be more of a foam-like structure, and we all know how foam sounds.

Isn't it swell how these days it's all about how many views, or likes, or clicks something gets? -not whether the story is true, or based on reality. Maybe it'll go viral! Maybe the click rate will indicate investor interest and we can sell the idea! Start a GoFundMe and retire, before any actual product is produced! Wheeeee!

I have a feeling that we could see a Tele that costs more than a new Gibson R9. Gig bag included.
