So, back in rehearsal studios (17 years since the last time for me) with 3 other guys. One plays acoustic - and has been doing open mics/charity gigs for a couple of years now, another 'tries' on the drums another and myself on guitars (me mainly doing slide stuff) ... all 60's Rock/RnB/Blues.

There's supposed to be a Bass man too ... no show the last two weeks! So - and have I done the right thing here? - got myself a Squier Jaguar (short scale) Bass to fill in on until a real bass player turns up.
£183 here new, I certainly didn't see any point paying a packet for it and know I wouldn't manage a used 34" at a similar price.

Obviously, all I'll be doing is thump-thump type rhythms but at least there'll (hopefully) be a sense of beat/timing going on - plus, I can use it at home with backing tracks for practice etc.

Only had a few hours but, through a Bass modelling unit, I quite like the pickups, but the PB one is far superior to the Jazz one imho. However, I may well have a look at the wiring inside later, already suspect a loose volume connection for the PB pickup.

Here's the obligatory pic - colour is CAR ... so it sits nicely with the CCR Strat and Fiesta Red Tele :)

I have that same bass! I agree about the pickups. The J pickup isn't great. But the P pickup, I really like.

I don't know if your loose wiring problem is the P pickup going to "11" when you turn the volume all the way up, but if so, I've found (with help from others here) that lowering that pickup a little helps. I suspect raising the J pickup might help it out some, but I haven't tried that yet.

    Thanks for the comment.
I see what you mean about the vol going to 11 ... That'll get fixed with some better pots.
Had a look inside and wiring is fine, in fact quite impressed with the neatness tbh

Isolated the problem .... It was a way too high Noise Gate setting I was using, never used one before ... so big learning curve there.
