Picked this BFSR up this weekend along with a Fender Vibroverb RI.

Tranny numbers match on the SR and the blue caps are all there.

The amp has replacement speakers in it now, but I received the originals which I'll probably send to Weber for reconing.

Now I need to decide whether to sell my '69 Drip Edge SR or keep both.

  5. Congrats - I have a 66 and it's my all time favorite amp. What were the original speakers? If they are alnico CTS's I'd say recone them without a doubt. What speakers are in the amp now?

Beautiful amp. I've got a '66 and it's been a great amp for many years!

Good job. Great job. No, in fact, the best job. In reality, you've done no better job at any point.

I will have on of these Super Revii one day, hopefully sooner rather than later.

I haven't owned a BF Super since the '70s, but it is one of my all time favorite amps. I was at a blues show last year and Jimmy Vaughn was running one of these unmiced and it sounded huge!

The original speakers are good for posterity. Plenty of better modern speakers. Good luck with it.

    Hopefully CTS alnico's...

The ones in my Super Six made me keep that amp over my 66 twin with original cone C12N's

Those speakers are the heart and soul of my SF. I didn't realize when I bought it just how good they were.

Wow, a stunner. Looks like it just rolled out of Fullerton.

I'd be curious to know not only what the original speakers are (CTS, please!) but what the replacements are.

I like the CTS Alnicos, too. But....the best BFSR I have owned or heard carried OEM Jensen C10's.

  17. I'll have to admit, as much as I love the CTS Alnico's in my SR, I bet the speakers I have in my VR would be as nice or possibly even better (65 Jensen C10NS).

Thanks guys. The original speakers appear to be CTS Alnico's like the ones in my '69 drip edge Super Reverb. I need to check them out more closely to be sure.

It sounds good now with Jensen RI's but it sounded better last night when I plugged in the '69 CTS speakers.

Definitely needs a once over by my tech and some better speakers before I sell my drip edge SR.

Vintage Jensen's CN's, CQ's are my favorites in BF Fenders, the CTS rank high also.

Wanted another BF Fender and I got this on at a fair deal.

    Looks awesome.

And I would keep the 69, put it on the other side of the room and play them in stereo.
