I found this among my myriad stuff, and have no idea what it is...anyone know?

Measures 4 inches across, diagonally. The two black cylinders are a little more than 1 inch long.

The cylinders look like capacitors or something (the printed numbers are just the product number for the heat-shrink tube enclosing them), and the little chrome spring lever connects the two cylinders when pressed down. The cylinders do not rotate. An adjustable, pivoting screw can push the lever down. Wires connect the cylinders to a hexagonal spacer/post and the pivoting screw mount. Has a receiver to mount on a rod about 3/8" diameter.

    Google Images yields nada...

Yeah, the little lever reminded me of a Morse Code key, but that can't be it.

A bell, maybe, some kind of alarm?

You're missing another part that makes it work. You need one of these.

If it is Pre-CBS, the Tone is probably to Die for!

I think I can capsize the story in two words: Bass Player.

Several years ago, a bass player was staying with me while we woodshedded songs every day. I remember now, he was into DIY tattooing. He left some small items here and has since moved on to parts unknown.

Update: Looks like I found the power supply that goes with the machine.

These tools are used by mountain folk in the Appalachian mountains to circumcise young men of marital age and to puncture said appendage to allow a 25 cent piece sized tag with the initials of their betrothed etched into it so that even in mixed company where they are not necessarily with other member of their immediate family they will still know who they are obligated to.

It is very easy to find out what these sorts of bits are for: throw them away

1 week after the dustcart made them irrecoverable they will be essential and you will have to overbid for one on eBay against the other clown who threw his away. Can I get an AMEN to that, brothers and sisters?

Linked to the physics rule known as 'Sod's Law'. Perhaps as the first person to record the phenomenon I should get to name it
