One rarely runs across instruments in the thrifts here, let alone interesting ones.
This one surely has a story. Though I'd see how long it takes for y'all to tell me all about this mystery piece.
It's pretty, though a bit of wood been sacrificed to the ages.

Late '60's/early '70's Japanese bass. Could have had any number of labels. Looks like it was modeled after a Mosrite.

This is the closest match I could find, which is listed as a "Teisco Silvertone"

Pickguard is different, but it's got the same pickups and controls.

I'm curious about that hole under the bridge/tailpiece.

Yep, zero fret and string tree indicate Teisco.

    Short scale ?

I think the bridge is not original. Looks like the ground to the bridge is exposed due to the bridge swap.

Is that the price?...129.99? Is that thrift store in Beverly Hills?

It's marked down to 99 bucks. They seem to be going for upscale prices on slightly better than usual stuff.

    .

    My guess is also Teisco.

Not sure with Basses, but with Teisco guitars because of Ry Cooder the pickups are worth more than the rest of the guitar. Which is a pity in a way that the guitars get gutted that way.

I would point out the non-original bridge, the missing bridge cover, and the botched string alignment due to the bridge. Chip on headstock too.

If the truss rod and pickups work, I'd offer them 60 bucks.

Quote a lot of hifi gear, some guitar amps. The LPs were pretty clean. Always a nice sign.

Bears a lot of resemblance to my first bass, which was branded Kingston.

It seems to be a trend with thrift stores to ask higher prices these days. Saw a real bottom of the barrel Strat-copy a while back. They were asking a hundred for it, and it needed a lot of work, but somebody bought it.
