I liked Blue Mountain too, Bloody 98 and some of the other tunes on that album. Fantastic. A lot of it is in weird timings I think. Cary Hudson is teaching guitar in MS,I was gonna send him a note and ask what the thinking she were, but didn't.

Scud Mountain Boys was another one I liked from that era.

I like Drag the River a lot.

I did a show for them once, they were pretty wonderful. But they had furniture on stage.

After SMB, Joe Pernice had The Pernice Brothers, which is more of a melodic pop thing, but still wonderful. I think Scud Mountain were already evolving in that direction when they came here.

So do I. They get the credit for leading me down the rabbit hole from punk to alt-country 16 or 17 years ago. Plus, Jon Snodgrass sounds great with a Telecaster in hand.

It's a good hole to be in these days. Alt-country is hot right now.
All the shows around town are well-attended.

Since the topic is Sun Volt and wives...

My wife turned me on to Uncle Tupelo on our first date. We started dating not long after Uncle Tupelo broke up (I think). Her and her roommate were huge UT fans – fanatics.

We saw Wilco not long after that, probably their first national tour. I can't remember if AM had come out or not. There were probably 100 people in the audience, and we were standing right in front. The roommate was bummed that he was wearing a wedding ring... hah. We saw Son Volt too when they toured, probably the next year. So in a way, all these guys have played an important part in my life.

Took my wife to a Son Volt show when WST came out. She couldn't get out of there fast enough. I think Farrar has the perfect voice for that style of music. I also think he is one of the best songwriters of the last 30 years. Someone mentioned that Tweedy had more talent...don't think so. Besides, Wilco lost me after their first few albums.

Blue Mountain was a terrific band, Jayhawks, early Old 97's. There was a band back then called the Pawtuckets that I really dug too.

^^^^ And none of them are Isbell !*

Sometime you have to drop the anvil on the coffee table and break it in half.

Wilco ? I'm glad I saw the Jay Bennett (RIP) Wilco and the Nels Cline Wilco. Loved 'em both. Also really like the record Jeff made with his son Spencer.

Yeah - Ryans Adams was a t**t back in the day. He is very prolific of late - and it's good stuff too. He has a way with a cover as well.

One of those guys that I begrudgingly had to give it up to. Lotta talent there.

*Like when people go on and on about Peter Frampton, and then you bring up Joe Walsh.

    It's a reset !

Nice catch . . . touring with The Sadies, too, if the Melbourne gig is any indication. I would've missed this.

When I first joined my current (country) band about 7 years ago they had been doing Windfall, so that was one of the first songs I learned for the band, on fiddle. We haven’t played it in years. I have performed Tear Stained Eye solo a few times and may do so again soon. Great songs.

I just listened to three Son Volt songs.

    Drown
    Back Against the Wall

And another I don't remember the title of.

Verdict? I'm a fan! Instantly. This speaks to me. Back Against the Wall gave me chills. The lead guitar sounds very Neil Youngish.

I'm picking up a Steve Earle vibe and some John Cougar.

I'm a big fan of Americana and Ameripolitan. This really hits me right.
