Musicians and bands you're embarrassed to admit you like...

I say, you've got nothing to be embarrassed about. I admit that Sir Elton fell off the pedestal after Crocodile Rock but his early stuff is so amazing - I just can't think of anyone with serious knowledge about the guy who takes him as anything but a master of his craft - of the very highest order.

And as for Rihanna, I just wish Beyonce and K. Perry and so many others would try harder to do what Rihanna is doing. She's mainly been plagued by bad management if you ask me.

Now, tell us who you like you really should be embarrassed about! :^)

If only Mr. Collins had remained behind the drum kit - he's really a great drummer, good voice and I was a big fan right up until Steve left - now, yes, I would be embarrassed.

As for these others you have named. Well, yipes. I'd gladly spill a cheap beer to get up and turn the dial on any of those. Always felt that way.

    Hate to say it but..........

You've kinda posted to the wrong thread.

If you don't care, you needn't post. With all due respect.

Nobody is so "good" in their musical taste IMO that they can just brush off everyone else's opinions.

If someone wants to give me grief for liking the Buckinghams, I can take it, but I understand where they're coming from and IMO that's what is important.

Hint: Don't employ the term "condescend". That's how we know you're not listening to us (and so we won't be listening to you). No offense intended.

I love how inevitably the "I'm so cool even the music that I love but think is beneath me, is awesome" starts to come out in threads like this.

Badfinger, Thriller, Lost Straighjackets, The Outfield, Elton John, freaking Blur! Those are your guilty pleasures?

I'll give you one - Tarzan Boy. Love that song. No redeeming musical qualities whatsoever. From the inane lyrics to the drum and bass machines, to the guitar which sounds sampled too. I mean, really? We can't be bothered to think of a chorus, so we'll just go "woah" for like 8 bars. Absolute crap.

That's an actual guilty pleasure. I'm dancing in my chair right now.

Who doesn't love the riff from "Saturday Night's Alright......."?

There are women performers I "like" only because I like to see them. Shania Twain. The young Martina McBride. Etc. (Did I mention...Shania Twain?) I don't hear a sound they make, and probably wouldn't like what I'd hear if I did. It's sad, I blame it on strangers and Bosco, but it's the street where I live.

    Shania Twain.

Otherwise, hell, if you like it, like it! My know-it-all-in-their-twenties daughters think that I'm goin' pure ijit for loving Marty Stuart and Kenny Vaughan so much lately, but so what? They also buy that 'ere fancy coffee. Cups with handles. Who needs 'em?!

(Notice I didn't say "Katy Perry." That's only because I'm lying.)

I have listened to "Goodbye to love" and the Tony Peluso solo in binges over the years!

    down every road
Or an old guy, in a kilt or cargo shorts, playing a Tele.

Here are only the few I can think of:
    Debbie Gibson
    Rick Springfield
    Katy Perry
    The Carpenters
    Kelly Clarkson
    Mouth and McNeil
    Ellie Goulding
    Sheena Easton
Sonny and Cher (except for Cher's autotune nonsense...girl can sing!)
    The Waitresses
    Toni Basil
    Human League
    Men at Work

I give credit to Taylor Swift for a songwriting knack. I don't care for the image or the TS industry, or even her singing....but she does write catchy tunes.

I'm not embarrassed at all, but my wife, kids, and co-workers all believe I should be. It's the stuff I grew up on in the 70's and early 80's.

    Knock Three Times
All the stuff that's now called "yacht rock" on Pandora -- Dan Fogelberg, Christopher Cross, England Dan and John Ford Coley, Robbie DuPree.

Certain female vocalists and the bands that support them:
    The Carpenters
    Amy Grant

There are some kick-ass acoustic covers hiding beneath some of these.
    Jesse's Girl
    Overkill - Men at Work
    Come On Eileen - DMR
I Just Died in Your Arms Tonight - Cutting Crew

I like Adele a whole lot. Because she has incredible vocals and the bands she plays with are incredible.
Taylor swift is cute and has catchy songs, and I daydream about being her touring guitarist.
Katy perry too. Catchy songs, and quite a looker.
I'm also a big fan of the song "Man, I feel like a woman." By miss Twain.

Not ashamed, but puzzled--why so little love these days for the Doobie Brothers? Guitar rock at its finest imo.
