To each his...or her own. I'm 64 and a life long blues and blues rock type. My wife is 49. She digs disco, Bon Jovi, Journey...need I go on?

It's been working for seventeen years now, so I guess it's OK.

Aw, love me some New Pornographers. Their 2017 album Whiteout Conditions is great.

Seiko Matsuda. Google “Seiko Jazz” and decide for yourself. (I say, “Meh.”)

My wife likes a huge variety of stuff. Nothing makes me roll my eyes. She does get tired of all the blues I listen to.

My wife is the last person to know who is playing on the radio er...device. She doesn't care much about it. She doesn't like death metal or the screaming vocals at 200bpm stuff. She'll tolerate country music and can dig classic rock and pop.

    Pop.

Yup, from Beatles through Michael Jackson to Lady Gaga. I just can't do it, so she plays her stuff when I'm working outside or in town.

Her bass playing is a different story. I like the baselines of pop, just not the melodies.

I have turned her on to the Stones, but those were pricy concert tickets.:rolleyes::cool:

Showtunes and lesbian folksingers - not that there's anything wrong with that.

That's the stuff I can't really take for more than 5 minutes - she likes plenty of stuff I'm fine with. We bond over Bonnie Raitt, Bruce, Van Morrison, Aimee Mann, a few others. But she can't stand any sort of improvisation or instrumental music and that's most of what I like to listen to. And she doesn't get blues at all, which is about 90% of what I play.

If we got married because of music, we'd have split up a looooooooong time ago. But we're at 32 years and counting so I think I can just about stop introducing her as "my first wife". I think it might take...

We're both 65, married for 43 years, still learning things about one another. She lets me think that we have a lot in common.

She likes Miranda Lambert, traditional bluegrass and Allison Krauss way more than I do. I can handle these only in small doses.

She's tolerant, but can't abide slightly out-of-tune singers (Donald Fagen, Bob Dylan) or vocalists who slide around (Madeleine Peyroux, for example).

My wife's current leanings towards pop stuff mystifies me. This is a girl whose college-era tastes included Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Boz Skaggs, etc. Then in the 80s she liked Steely Dan and by the end of that decade was into Big Audio Dynamite and lots of alternative/new wave bands. The 90s she was a Replacements nut.

I think the changes at our local college radio station have something to do with it. Once we/she stopped listening to that station, our opportunities to hear new, good music decreased. I did what I said I'd never do and reverted (for the most part) to old music I grew up with - she moved on to pop radio and the pablum there.

My wife can identify what I'm listening to in a few seconds:

    Ornette
    Steve Reich
    Kraut rock

She doesn't like any of them, but she can spot it quickly!

My wife likes The Beatles...but only the hits. I like the album tracks.

She likes Pink Floyd...but only The Wall. I don't like anything after Animals.

One day we were getting stuck into a big DIY project so she put on some Amazon playlist supposedly designed to motivate. After about three songs I pulled the plug and told her the only thing it motivated me to do was to drill my eardrums out.

She'd swap me for Robert Plant in a heartbeat. I don't mind a bit of Bob every now and then, but...

In terms of what she likes that makes me roll my eyes, we have:
    Nickelback
    Good Charlotte
    Coldplay
Quite a few bands that all sound the same to me. The members of said bands all seem to wear black and have a fixation on eyeliner. All the songs rise in pitch for the chorus and I detect autotune everywhere. Keeps her happy. Formulaic 'teen' angsty stuff. Blech. Pappy-pop.

She doesn't mind my stuff, she even quite enjoys Wilko, The Blockheads, Dr Feelgood and some UFO, but Motorhead leaves her cold. Funny woman.
Zappa?, she'll leave the room. Jeff Beck?, see Zappa. She thinks Rory Gallagher was cute and could play a bit, but she's not keen. She likes, but fails to understand why I consider The Band to be amongst the best there's been. Odd woman.
At least we agree on Radiohead, Muse and early era Black Sabbath.

My wife has concert stubs from when she saw the Stones in 75. $6.50. Stones tickets are still six fifty, but...

Wife Japanese? Only ask because that's a particularly niche taste otherwise. I can't do the drippy jazz covers you posted, but her 80's idol stuff I like quite a bit. My wife is Japanese and was a teenager in the 80's so Seiko-chan is a natural around here.
