    Hi all
I'm planning to build a telecaster for gigs and abuse... I would prefer an alder body. I am considering a Mexico std. tele body. I checked the Fender website, it says the body is alder. But I had always thought that the Mexico standards were poplar bodies. Has Fender changed the body wood to alder recently or was I wrong to think they were ever poplar? Any help appreciated
    Thanks

    live bodies

They were poplar until recently when alder has been cheaper to get. It may be hard to tell if it's a solid color. Some recent ones have a blue oval sticker on the pickguard saying it's alder. 2002 or later likely, earlier maybe :)
