Looking for spaghetti western/atmospheric type music?

An awful lot of spaghetti western music, for some reason border on surf and punk..., with the busy snare and almost punk attitude... almost like it's a caricature of the genre.... I'm looking for more "atmospheric sounding" stuff...

For example, I've really fallen in love with the sounds of James Wilsey's El Dorado, and all of Jim Campilongos' stuff (which alot of is western SWING flavored), and am looking or more of that type of melodic, reverby/echo-y, atmospheric stuff. Campilongo isn't spaghetti of course, but some of his TONES are...

I already have the Ventures and Shadows... that's more "surf" than I'm looking for, and most recommendations I've seen are more "punk" than I'm looking for... I also have Keith Scott's surf project (The Fontanas), but it's a little too pop-y for me... actually, the other soundtrack I dig is Once Upon a Time in Mexico....

Anybody have any suggestions for more melodic/moody/atmospheric SW-type music?

The Once Upon a Time in the West soundtrack mentioned above is absolutely essential for getting in touch with the spaghetti western music sources.

I'd also suggest the Ennio Morricone boxed set (?) and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

Yes. Once Upon A Time In The West is a good one. I happened upon this simple arrangement/guitar lesson that I found well done!

What a great thread! I'll have to check all this stuff out. This one isn't typical, but it is atmospheric.

I just got that album and it's awesome. Very interesting renditions of the music from the Man With No Name Trilogy. Turned me on to the Bambi Molesters too - a great surf band from Croatia.
