It's early Saturday morning, can't sleep, brain has gone nuts soooooo......

I was thinking about a kt120 based SE amp, should be able to get around 40 to 50 watts out of a kt120.

Anyone now where you can buy a 50watt SE output tranny .

or would 4 15 watters wired series parallel work.

    OR AM I JUST NUTS?

imagine lugging it up a flight of stairs to a gig...... a fifty watt champ clone would be cool but not too portable it seems.

damn not being famous and having roadies to carry my gear

I'm building a big SE amp in head format. It'll sit on my 4x8 angled cab for a mini half stack look. More portable too.

Have you considered a parafeed design? I'm looking into it.

Heh... I'm actually ordering parts for mine tonight.

I'm holding off on the transformers until I have the chassis, but I've pretty much decided on the Hammond 290EX, which is a BF Bassman PT. It'll give me enough current to run a pair of 6L6GC's in parallel SE at 450V on the plates without even getting warm.

I had considered a monster SE amp before, until I saw the price on the transformers it takes to get there. These days, I wonder if a simple tweed Champ re-amped through a Bad Cat Unleash would get the little SE to the big show. That could be a 100W Champ on a reasonable budget.

I'm looking at around $200 in iron between power & output. Maybe a little more but not much. I'll be using Hammond stuff.

BTW... parallel OTs are a thing. Might be cheaper, easier and lighter than a big huge Hammond 164x
